Rear mounted external trans cooler

I've put the cooler in the rear of my old c6z and now my turbo charged zr1..
I didn't feel like it was a good choice cramping more crap up in the front of the car, and have to add twice the lines and fittings..
Plus I figured the less weight on the front and the more weight on the back the better off I was when trying to get the car to plant the tires...

Not really just picked up my material for the down pipes. I have to redo a rear mount kit I'm building for a friend. Put a 4l80 in and nothing fits anymore

Thanks Black, care to share any of the particulars (i.e. cooler, location, tranny temps)? I have narrowed it down to a few coolers (B&M, Derale, and Hayden). Location will determine the size (would like to have largest possible). Need to determine if tube/fin or plate. Driveline is still out of the car (well I stabbed the motor last week). PM me if you like.
Also did it where it was in place of mufflers. Just because it's a huge open space..
My zr1 had a 5in downpipe dumped to the front of the car

wow didn't realize the number of posts in corvette forum dictated experience or plain common sense. i guess i"ll never comment ever again on a thread bc of my limited post experience . Surprised you even made a thread asking for advice with your 360 post experience! lmao

If I ever add one, I'm just doing it in the fender behind the brake duct in front of the tire.

Which is why I would do a tiny cooler, and I'm a manual car with no cooler now. I've had zero issues. I don't road race, or do any sustained high load situations, so I don't see a need to run a cooler. Just added cost/failure points/weight.

For a manual it would be perfect

The big thing that kills an auto is heat. You can harden it all you want but if you can't control the heat, it's not going to last. Throw in a stall and the heat issue doubles.
Yes, lot's of room up front to run one (which most do, not rocket science). I personally want to stay away from running one up front if possible.
1. I don't want to run the OEM lines as they go by the exhaust. I don't want to run aftermarket-braided lines to the front of the car. They would still suffer heat in the engine bay unless run through the rocker.
2. If the damn thing started leaking at the most inopportune time and fluid got on a wheel the outcome would not be pretty. Not saying this would happen, but never say never with these cars.
I was looking for real world experience (for ideas) as I know it's been done on both C5 and C6 platforms (as some posters in this thread have shown). Not advice (as another poser keeps clamoring about).
I read a thread from the C7 section (results from search) where Lou from LG hung one on the rear leaf spring mounts and tied it in series with the OEM cooler in the left qtr panel. That cooler didn't utilize a fan. Prolly not my cup of tea though.
Anyway, enough rambling. Thanks for your input.

I'm on the fence about this myself. I'm debating running a cooling duct to my trans cooler as you have here, but I don't know that I want to lose the fog lights to do it. What did they use for the mesh?
