Default stock ls3 shortblock

I read that 550whp on boost is about the max you want to be at for "safe" conditions? Is that true?

I want to try and crack a 130mph trap speed... that's the goal. The car makes 453whp on a Mustang dyno on a VMS 2.5 Cam only setup.

It's a M6, stock rear and transmission.

I was thinking about going FI to reach my goal. Most likely supercharger (although turbo is tempting). Just not sure how well the short block handles that type of mod.

I went 10.63@137 leaving soft on a stock (even stock cam) LS3 with a rear mount single turbo setup. That was a 6.9@105 1/8. Added a cam/meth and went 6.66@111 in the 1/8 with same tight converter. Didn't run 1/4 with it. This is an auto car too.

So your MPH goals are gravy with a good tune and forced induction.

Where did you get that kit?

Thanks for the info! Something to look forward to now!

Over 700 here as well. I've daily driven it for months this way. Who told you 550whp was the limit on an LS3?

With octane I have no issue running ~800rwhp out of a ls3.

People have made 1000+.

With straight pump gas ~600-650. With e85 or meth, 750-800.

Boy I hope that's not the limit. I'm running 650whp on a 110K mile LS2 lol.

We literally have hundreds of LS2/3 cars on the road over 700 rwhp. Very low failure rate, extremely low.

A&A V3 Ti-trim Kit 3.6" pulley
AlkyControl Meth kit
Headers
Goal will be accomplished and then some. And still be well within the "norm" for LS and boost.

Thanks for all the replies. Very helpful!

The car already has a VMS 2.5 cam in it. Moderately sized... not sure how good it'll work with boost though. Made 453whp on a Mustang dyno.

Making 600-650whp would be pretty sweet though!

I made 870 on 15lbs. Stock bottom end LS2, china studs, LS9 gaskets, S475, and e85. Could have made 900 but chose to leave it as is till I build a motor.

My LS3 didn't survive long at 900whp with E85 - Low 800s seems to be safe.

How much timing & boost were you running?

I'm at a tad over 800 peak @ 12psi (peak) out to 6700. Forged bottom end. however, stock ls3 block. As far as i understand, getting the block prepped to survive is a big deal as things tend to flex with these ls3's.

I mean....the amount of timing you were running is kinda important to know. Boost is relative, so you can't say it was the amount of boost that caused it.. A sh*tty tune on the other hand...

I trust that Sam@AMP didn't have the timing or the tune off from what works best for power and longevity. Since the part was a rod failure, doesn't seem that detonation was the problem regardless.
