Finished the install today. Ran it long enough to get all the fluids full and check for leaks. Then I switched out the injectors and pulled the ecm to send to Doug at ECS tomorrow. I have decided it would be best to let him set me up with a base tune.

I want to thank everyone for their advice and help! I sent the ECM to Doug yesterday. Can't wait to get it back so I can drive it!

OK, I got the base tune back from ECS! I am very pleased with how fast Doug got my ECM back to me! I took the car for a drive tonight and data logged it. It surges/bucks some at slower speeds with light throttle but over all ran pretty good. I can tell its also not quite right under boost sometimes it seems to bog slightly. I did not run it hard under boost as I could tell it wasn't quite right. I am attaching the data log I ran tonight and was hoping to get some feedback on it.

Yeah it's super rich, I would imagine it was setup that way on purpose so that it was a safe starting point. Sending you something that was lean would obviously not be a great idea.

Also looks like timing is being pulled for one reason or another, my guess would be burst KR is still active

Without seeing the tune that's about all I can say

Also looks like you're still running a 1 bar MAP, that needs to be changed

Fuel trims are mostly -10% or lower, again to me means it was setup as a rich starting point

I think you're actually richer than you're even seeing in HPT--I think it's maxing out the wideband on the rich side.

So, I'd replace the MAP with a 2 bar unit first and probably reduce MAF/VE/whatever it's using for airflow by 10-15% all at once just to get it not so rich. Disable or dial burst KR back a lot also

Add burst knock retard, total knock retard and plain "knock retard" to the list of channels you're logging

What should I use for a 2 bar MAP? I think I saw somewhere that there was a factory MAP that could be used? I am leaving in the morning to go on Power Tour for the week (taking my Chevelle). When I get back I will get the MAP changed and lean it out some. What will I need to change in the tune to use a 2 bar sensor? Thanks

Cobalt SS 2 bar map will be the easiest/cheapest option. GM part number 12615136

Change MAP linear/offset values to 200 kpa and 7.98 kpa I believe are the correct values. Should be able to google to confirm.

Ordered the MAP sensor. Will i need to change the operating system to use it? Also to reduce the MAF do I use the Airflow vs Frequently. Low under MAF Calibration? Thanks

It will work with the factory OS though I'd still upgrade it at some point.

Ok, I took 10% off the MAF and ran two data logs. The first one is highway speed and one short burst through the gears. The second one is in town driving. Car still has a slight surge at slower speeds under light throttle. When its cold the surge is much worse almost like an on off switch when moving the throttle. I have a 2 bar MAP ordered and will install it when it gets here.

I forgot to add that it now runs much better overall and when I dropped the hammer on it, it pulled through the gears without bogging.

Also add mass airflow frequency to the list of channels you are logging. Need that to tune MAF table(s)

Over 5700 RPM's or so it's starting to go lean, but need to know where that is on MAF table in order to adjust it.

Here is the tune currently in the car. I will add MAF frequency to log. From what I am understanding the E38 ECM doesn't need a custom operating system for a 2 bar MAP? The only thing I find available in the operating systems drop down is Manifold Vacuum Boost? Also it looks like the E38 ECM has the VVE instead of the VE tables? Thanks!

That's an old OS, one that a custom OS is not available for unfortunately. I haven't seen that in a long time

Like I said, you can use the 2 bar MAP sensor on the stock OS. Just change the linear/offset settings

And yes you can use virtual VE instead of a "regular" VE table that the custom OS would have gotten you, but it's more of a pain to adjust and there are a lot of other features that come with the 2 bar OS that are nice. Boost PE table, changes to fan settings table, increased MAF range, etc.

Again, not necessary, just nice to have

Got the 2 bar MAP installed and settings changed. Also installed the Manifold Vacuum Boost patch. First log is highway and a short burst through the gears. I also did another short log of in town driving as it still surges/bucks at slower speeds with light throttle. I have also included my current tune.
