Don't forget, speeds in the 1/2 & 1 mile aren't all about power, gearing and tire size play a big role as well. I have a buddy that runs a little over 170MPH in the 1/2 with just over 700RWHP by running a taller tire and hanging 4th gear to 7200rpm. I've switched to running a 335/30R20 which at 7000rpm should put me right at 170MPH in the 1/2 (previous best of 162 shifting to 5th). Looking at gear ratio calculators, IF you could rev it to 7500rpm with a 28" tall rear tire, you'd be right at 183MPH. Obviously you wouldn't want to run that way all the time, but for a few passes once or twice a year, it might be doable. Mine is a bone stock LS3 other than springs (stock cam, rockers, etc) and it handles 7,000rpm just fine.

True.. crossing in 4th is the way to do it, especially on centri setup, if you can
Crossing the line at 7psi of boost in 5th when you see 12+ at peak RPM pretty much sucks. I thought about raising the rev limiter on mine last week but had to drive it home so I didn't want to risk it. I'm sure it would have been fine. Mine is at 6600 now but I usually shift at 6500

An E85 swap and removing the restrictor plate will put you somewhere in the mid to upper 800's rwhp. PM me your email if you would like us to price out the fuel system and direct drive parts.

What size pulley/balancer would you run for 800’s? Still 3.25 or go smaller?

You have to replace everything for a 180+ 1/2 mile car, so you are basically just using the chassis. At that point, but a 240sx roller, or something, do a nice turbo 1200+LS motor, spend 1/4 of what a PG or TH400 cost for a vette, use the left over for built rear end with tons of gear options, tub it to fit a huge tire. More reliable, faster, and the chassis would be paid for just in the savings on the drivetrain parts.

I ran 171.5 at 800rwhp on the ECS Novi 1500. Ran out of runway a couple hundred feet before the traps and didn't shift to 5th. At 800rwhp with a blower, I don't see much more than 173-175ish. I've also seen some whacky MPH's from underpowered cars at events but that seems to be corrected in the last 2 years or so.
I'd think 15 grand and you could do it if you did the labor. 6k shortblock, 4K in a 2200r/8 rib and direct drive, 2k in the clutch, 3k in the fuel system. As mentioned add about 5-10k for labor if not doing it.

the downside is 850whp is max in a c6 before it gets out of hand but the upside is a 850whp c6 is a really really gnarly street car only doesn't feel insane at a 1/2 mile event. Or Texas where it seem everyone has 1k whp.

Totally agree.. If I was starting over, I would start with a used Nascar roller. Cheap $ for a built racecar with cage, safety, suspension, etc.
Blown or turbo big block, trans, fuel and you are off and running!
I would have saved at least a third of my costs.
For street/strip, and older Mustang or Camaro would be a lot cheaper.

1k whp, heck seems like half the people in TX are at 1500-2000. This state is crazy/rediculous, if I lived anywhere else in the country my car would be considered crazy fast with 700+ whp, here I wouldn't even qualify for some events.

Above 140mph it does come down to total frontal area and .cd plus obviously power. We had a 595rwhp 440ci LS motor with TFS235cc heads, FAST90 in a little Mazda RX-7 going 196mph in the mile back in 2009 at TX Mile. There were Vettes there making about 1000rwhp and barely breaking 200mph. Drag/Aero has a calculation that it takes 3x more power to go above 140/150mph..... and the total frontal area.... under car drag, tire size etc... all come into play.
That being said I'm making about 1200rwhp and having big traction issues.... going solid mid 190's in the 1/2 mile. '93 LS9 88mm turbo RX-7 is for sale.... $40K. Your choice of T56 Magnum or Powerglide..... Fresh motor, trans and about 1K miles on the clutch/8.8" solid rear end. Easy 200mph+ car with traction control added and more aero work. This is a street driven car.

I can echo what's been said. I went 161 with just ECS 1500 kit and meth...not hitting it until 3rd because of sand blowing across track. Put a cam in it this year, fixed some suspension and went to a 27" tire instead of the 26". My goal is 170 at Dallas in Nov. Past that, not interested. It's a lot of funds to go faster. Remember, leaning on a stock short block in a 1/4mi is different than the time you are leaning on it during a 1/2mi.

Be happy with what you have.
I have been chasing the magic 200 mph in the 1/2 mile for 2 years and have blown over $80k on a ERL, F1X, FORE fuel, way overpriced sheet metal intake, every possible supporting mod, etc. When I made 1030 rwhp my best run was 182 mph but I was also overheating and my IATs were around 200 degrees. Since then I blew another $30k on a air to water IC, built drive line, clutch, etc. I am making 1250 on E85 and that MIGHT get me to to 195 mph with a decent DA but since most of the events around me are in PA or on mountains 4000 ft up I have no chance. My builder told me that it I want to go 200 mph I need 1450+ rwhp and I am done throwing money at a platform that isn't worth the spend. Enjoy what you have, you cannot complete with a platform like a GTR or Gallardo in these 1/2 mile events that are AWD with amazing automatic transmissions.

I wouldn't even know where in VA you would enjoy that car. Been in VA for past 2 of 6 weeks and it seems like nothing but pot holes and small roads.

I'm in Alexandria, which is even worse. I may need to cross the border into Maryland for some fun.
