The direct drive runs separate belts. The supercharger is driven with one and the accessories on a second belt. This takes the stress off of the accessories.

Yes, looks like the blower belt just kind of uses the water pump for an idler. It has to take some of the load off the pump. Wouldn't need to run quite as much tension on it either.
