Default Water pump pulley failure with ECS supercharger

Water pump pulley broke around the weld tonight. 24000 miles on the car 5000 on supercharger. Anyone else had this problem?

Common for any blower car. Has nothing to do with ECS kit vs others.

Common as in take a spare water pump and tools on a trip? 5000 miles a pump is going to get pretty costly.

No, not that common or frequent, but it does happen. Some of the WP are just weak and people pop them after putting the added stress. Other ones last nearly forever. Just luck of the draw. Typically reenforcing that area and tacking it to the shaft fixes the problem. If you are really concerned, you can run an aftermarket pump that doesn't have those issues.

I've not had any issues locally with them, but have seen a few on here. There's probably a 15-20 supercharged LS's in my area.

Thats what I'm worried about. I drive my car a lot and take trips in it. I cant have it popping pulleys off when ever and where ever. I was going to take it on Hotrod Power Tour this year but the last thing I want to do is change a water pump along side the road.

Seriously concidering the HPE flip drive system. I dont like worrying about crap like this. Looks like about $800.00 for the flip drive.

I understand that the flip drive does not come with supercharger bracket. I assume the ECS bracket will work still for the supercharger?

Flip drive does zero to address this. Blower belt still runs the water pump.

Edelbrock pump, or mezerie, or just put a new OEM on, weld it up, and enjoy.

On the flip drive looks like I could back off the belt tension some. That would help take some load off the pump. As far as "weld it up" I dont see what thats going to accomplish. Its not slipping on the shaft so welding that up will do no good. As for reinforcing the pulley maybe it will work maybe not. Im just much for half assing things together because it always bites me in the butt at the worst possable time. Looks like some have a problem with pulleys breaking and some dont. It also looks like no one has an exact answer on what will fix it. The fact is the way it is is not dependable. The pulley is overstressed in this supercharged application. From what I have read some have had trouble with the high dollar pumps too.

If it's a tension issue, I'm surprised its not killing the PS and Alt bearings

What power level are you at? My car is at ECS now and they recommended I go to the direct drive system north of 700whp for this reason. Is that an option for you?

Its just 593 hp at the tire. I do plan to do more to it at some time. My concern right now is the pulley breaking. Maybe it was an isolated situation but Im not comfortable just throwing another pump on it. The way that pulley is made and where the belt rides puts a lot of strain on it. My opinion is it broke once it will do it again. I am waiting on a call back from ECS. I want to get their opinion on it.

I am not sure are new pump more weak or peoples start to speak about this problem. But it seem to be common problem. Some say welding pulley to shaft make it more weak. That can be true...
If pulley broke high rpm, something else going to broke too.
