Jackshaft belt or slipping on the jackshaft. When you got a newer belt, just made it worse because it is probably the lower belt slipping.

when you say lower belt, do you mean the ac belt? That's the only other belt connected to the jack shaft? When I take the accessory belt off no squeal at all. If it's the ac belt how do I tighten it??

He’s talking about the 4 rib belt coming off of the balancer that drives the jackshaft.

Yes that belt. That is normally the one that slips as it is only a 4 rib belt, and when you take the load of the PS/ALT off it doesn't slip. You need to replace that belt often, or swap to the newer A&A setup with a 6 rib belt.

I only have like 200 miles on this kit. I had it put on right before winter and it's been squealing on startup since I got it back from shop. The squeal goes away after like a minute. Now with the shorter belt it takes longer to go away but when I turn my steering wheel either right or left the squeal comes back for a little while I guess until everything heats up. Then it goes away. Is there a newer system from the one that would have been sold back in november??

AC belt. Continental Elite. 4PK1215

Alt belt K060365

Blower belt. KO80537HD gates

I bought my A&A secondary drive in June 2017. If you have three sets of threads on the balancer with a 4 rib belt driving the jackshaft pulley, which drives a 6 rib pulley for the alternator and power steering, you have the latest version.

Are you having any issues with belt squeal?

I did initially with the 370 size belt that came with the kit for the alt/power steering. Once I went down to a 365 belt, I have no issues.

ok, could anyone give me any more suggestions on how to resolve this or which way to go with this. I'm not sure what else to do. Is there away to tighten the 4 rib belt??

There’s a tensioner between the balancer and jack shaft, but I can’t remember if it’s adjustable or not.

Change the AC tensioner. They get weak with age. Use the continental elite belt on AC. Used to be the gatorback.
Thank me later. LOL.

To come back to this thread the mechman alternator has a very large lip on the pulley, much larger than stock. I really struggled eventually I took the entire pulley off put the belt over and was able to get it on that way. It was a complete pain in the )(*@)#($*@.

to me it's easier to remove the lower alternator bolt so you can move the alternator to get the belt on then you can get that bolt started again and then pull the tensioner down to thread the top bolt
