Yes, there's two forms of energy that a turbo runs off of. Heat and pressure. Ceramic coating or heat wrapping maintains the heat inside the system and forces it through the turbo, thereby increasing the efficiency.

It's not so much the metal expansion as it is maintaining the heat which helps the exhaust gasses expand more with the heat. Flow coating probably does help to some degree, although most likely minimal. But all of our ceramic coating includes a 20mil internal flow coating AND and external ceramic coating.

Alright some more updates. The storm halted my progress but I still managed to get some work done. I teflon taped and installed the oil fittings on the turbo. Installed the 40mm studs on the turbo manifolds and fit the drivers side turbo. Cut out the diagonal support and started clocking the turbo properly.

Looks good, may have missed it but what’s your fuel setup? What kinda power are you shooting for?

Got the drivers side properly clocked, pulled it back off and applied the silicone gasket and final torqued the bolts. Manifold is back off again so I can cut the fender liner for the down pipe.

I'm putting the kit together with 1000cc injectors and doing the initial tune on 7 psi wastegate springs then I'm going to install the UPP fuel system and move to 10 psi springs on e85. Due to the nature of racing I do I'm not shooting for anything crazy, just solid power delivery.

My least favorite part of this install was cutting out the battery tray to mount the passenger side turbo lol. There's a decent amount of mounting surfaces so I started cutting the one closest to the frame and bending back to reach further in. Once I got most of it cut out I put a relief cut in the lip and hammered all the raised edges down.

Gonna pull the wires up and out of the way tomorrow and clock the passenger side turbo and then start the placement of the over fender pipes.

Actually, while I have this much of the car apart I'm gonna sand down and paint the surface rust on the frame there. It keeps bugging me.

Is it necessary to use teflon tape on that fitting? Looks like an AN fitting to me?

Looking good on the progress so far!

Good call on that, guess I'm getting a little carried away. I was stuck indoors for a while due to the storm and just looking for little things here and there I could do.

Looking good man! This is looking like a great resource for anybody on the fence about the UPP kit.

I know the feeling, lol

At least you didn’t slather the liquid Teflon sealant stuff all over the sealing end of that fitting like I’ve seen some people do

+1 on this.

Good eye, I missed that completely. But yes, AN fittings do not get teflon or any form of sealant. only NPT.

Had about an hour of daylight after work last night so I started trimming the drivers side fender liner to fit the downpipe. A lot of measuring and test fitting, I didn't want to cut too much material away.

It is, but the car isn't level and in that picture the downpipe isn't fully clocked all the way up. With the X pipe removed, and the downpipe positioned properly, the tore at full lock has about an inch gap and I suspect it will be greater once on the ground.

As it turns out the lip on the Borla X pipe is nearly perfect for the V band flanges supplied with the kit. At this point the only standing between me and a finished car is free time lol.

Just a heads up, if you run a 3" exhaust you'll have much better results. Dropping back to the 2.5" or 2.75" there is going to create a bottle neck and create alot of turbulence. Some cars we've seen as much as an 80hp gain running 10psi going between 2.5"-3".

Duly noted. Changing my whole exhaust system isn't currently in the budget but I'll definitely move it to the top of the list for the next round of mods in a few months.
