Default Whats the ideal rear wheel/drag radial size for racing?

I have a base model with z51 brakes, will 17" (2006) gumby wheels fit on the rear and what is the ideal tire hieght, OD for drag racing? I want to not have active handling problems. Probably the wrong section but you guys know what your doing, thanks!

Power level? Track prep? Type of racing? 1/8th, 1/4, 1/2? Street use too or track only?

There is no blanket best, it all depends on application and what works for you. For strictly drag racing a 6 speed manual car, a bias ply 15 in the narrowest lightest tire that will still hook based on the track, will be the best.

Smallest tire that hooks. Unless you make a good chunk of power I would stay with a 26” like a hoosier, MT, Toyo DR.

Power level is 750 wheel. Track is local 1/8 mile Irwindale Ca. Im looking to buy rear rims and tires for the track but would have to drive to and from. I dont want to change wheels there. I'd like to do 1/4 mile too, thats a longer drive, so 1/8 mostly. My car is a manual trans if that matters. Track is prepped. I'll look at 26" or close. I had Mickey Thompsons before but that was on a bigger wheel. I was really happy with those. My main concern was if 17s would fit over z51 brakes and wheel diameter. Thanks for your replies.

15" conversion is best. I use the M&H 325/45/17 or 18s work great. Just won a cash day event, beating many trailered race cars on slicks.

I run a 305/45x17 MT with C6 5 spoke reproduction rims and they clear the heavy duty brakes with no issues
