Default c6z A&A v3 kit

I have an 06 z06. Did the TSP 265cc heads this year, with a tsp 2.2 cam. Recently picked up a A&A kit for the car, with BAP and 80lb injectors. I would like the car to make decent power, but it doesn't have to fly, it seems to do okay as it is. I have a few questions.

I know e85 is recommended. From looking around and reading its either fuel systems that are barely adequate for 600whp, or systems rated for 1000. What are you guys running?

I've seen inklings that the 06 ECU is limited when it comes to tuning capacity? Is this true?

With the Heads/cam I already have on the car, will it be safe to have the blower set up put on? heads were not milled.

Thank you in advance, and yes I did search, but couldn't find anything specific to what I was looking for.

Heads will be ok as long as they’re not milled much. Cam will make good power, but for a blower car you can use something milder with less overlap and still make good power and have better driveability. e85 is not required, but is great for a blower car, if you plan to upgrade the fuel system. Otherwise, many use a BAP, larger injectors, and meth.

What power are you looking for? Patriotsix is making pretty big power with a small blower and I am as well. ID 1300’s BAP and alkycontrol kit, E85 is next on my list(well after rear tire and shocks/coil overs), Patriotsix may already have his E85 set up, if not I know he plans on it. I have a 2006 ZO6 zero issues with tuning the ECU. Cam choice is a big deal in my opinion if you want good power and drivability. Spend the extra money on a custom grind if possible. You have a few options on upgrading the fuel system and you can spend as much money as you want, it’s not a place to go budget on but you can have a decent set up for $1200-$1500 or spend 5k, all up to your budget and power goals.

My goal is whatever the car makes and is safe. I already have the TSP 2.2 cam in there, so it is what it is on that front.

SBE? If so I’d say stay under 7psi....boosting an LS7 needs to be done with care and know it’s gonna require more maintenance, check ups replacing of parts as needed.....def throw some meth or corn at it, if your staying under 700whp you can mitigate some of the issues or needs. What’s the specs on your current cam?

I would suggest getting in touch with Andy or Josh @ A&A with all your questions and what you're trying to accomplish and be done.

I have a D1 on my SBE z06 at 5psi making just shy of 650 on pump and meth, I contacted Texas speed and they said the 2.2 would make a good blower cam as the overlap will help reduce cylinder pressure while still adding some damn good power. I’ve read of some N/a guys who went to blower on btr stg 2 cams and made great power. The tune however is absolutely critical. Race proven Motorsports/A&A/ECS have done a ton of blown C6Z. Don’t let the internet scare you.

I’m SBE, yes. I’d be really happy in that 650 range. I feel like that would be very fun and safe. Tuner said that BAP would not be adequate with the stock pump and I’ll need a fuel system. The kit I had came with #80 injectors. Tuner said the 2006 ecu was limited in terms of tubabilty and I should look at upgrading to a 2009 ecu?

you should upgrade your tuner....

I 100% agree! Nothing wrong with the 2006 ECU, you can search some of my threads or I can repost to this thread if need be.....but I’ve got lots of video of dyno pulls, dyno sheets an entire “rebuild thread” a short and long version of my 2006 ZO6 P1SC1 blower, BAP, ID1300(for E85 in the future) alkycontrol dual kit and stock fuel pumps. There’s also video of the car just raising hell, make mid 5 second 60-130mph runs and hawking down a FBO GSXR 1000 in Mexico at 180mph.....so yeah absolutely nothing wrong with the 2006 ECU and you can make some serious power on a small blower without a full on fuel system(although the full fuel system upgrade is the best permanent solution) get a second opinion tuner wise at a minimum, I’d lean towards just out right firing him though....I went down that road before and it doesn’t end well. Finding the right shop/tuner is critical imo. 🇺🇸

It does have some limits like injector size, but if the tuner doesn't know how to get around that, you need a new tuner. It is very simple.

Keep it ~700rwhp or under, and enjoy it. That could be 4psi or 8psi, don't worry about that number, just the power output.

Fuel system wise best bet is probably ECS fuel kit, unless you want to spend $3500+ on fore stuff.

My first blower setup was PRC 285 heads, 228/230 cam, 1000CC injectors and dual fuel pump setup. Stock bottom end, A&A kit with Si trim. Made a solid 705rwhp on 5psi. It was fun.

No issues tuning a 2006 ECM.

Do the newer ones have a few extra tables available specifically related to the O2 sensors? Yes. But unless you're running an insane cam then it's fine. The airflow/IFR limits of the 06 ECM are easy to get around.. if he doesn't know how to do that then you need a new tuner

I've been told that the injector scaling on the 06 ecu is bunk, so I need an ECU. Also the flex fuel kit, and a big dog fuel system. Is there a recommendation out there, or is it really better to just drop 1500$ on the A&A set up? Bought this kit as it was the "everything you need" kit. Turns out that was a stretch...

You've been told wrong. That's total bullshit.

All they have to do is double the stoich AFR table, cut the injector flow rates in half, and go with it... that's it. No need to scale anything.

Any tuner that doesn't know this shouldn't be tuning your car.

Whoever you are talking too, stop.

Kit is ready to go, and make a nice 600rwhp. If you want more, you need more parts. Otherwise bolt it on, run a 4.0" pulley, use the BAP and 80lb injectors, and a different tuner and enjoy. Now if you want 700+ then yes you need a lot of extra parts.

My understanding is that you lose resolution or something. I think youd also gain launch control and a couple other small features its only a $250 and hour of your time upgrade. I only did it at request of the guy who is doing my base map/lower boost tuning. Someone who deals with that one particular work around on this ecu may obviously be more experienced.

Nope, don't lose anything doing it the double stoich way

I agree $250 and an hour of work isn't a big deal in the end.. but still is unnecessary in my book unless you're specifically after a feature the newer one adds

I'm more concerned with the tuner sounding like he didn't know how to work with the limitations of the earlier E38 ECM's. If he wants to upgrade for some new features, cool.. but it sounded like the tuner is saying he "has to" which is definitely wrong

So from what I'm looking at its 250 for the flex fuel kit, 250 for an ecu, he is charging 250 to toss a base tune on there so I can drive it to him, 1500 for a fuel system, then 500$ for the tune to get the car spot on. So 2750! Anyone want to tell my wife?

Hes charging you seperately for a base tune to get you to him for the actual tune? I have no problem paying the normal $750-900 for a good flex fuel tune but the breakdown annoyes me. My tuner would never charge me extra to get me a base map to get the car to him.
Shoot most of the time we would do a bunch of low boost street tuning over the internet and then have him finish everything in person when i bring it to him no extra cost or bs.
You can also get around some of that fuel system cost.
