This is a preliminary bench video. I'm going to have another video later featuring it mounted on the car. I put it on youtube but it's still currently processing. Here's a temporary link to photobucket.

Here is a really quick video of it mounted on the car. I am still waiting for youtube to finish processing the other video. Like I said this is a really thrown together video right now but it gives you an idea. More to come. BTW, I'm in no way affiliated with RPI, just a customer trying to help out!

Well, even if you were affiliated with RPI, doesn't matter this is their thread. Also, luckily, where i live i don't need no stinkin front plate, but if I did, that is the only product I would own, it is the best of an ugly situation.

Any pics of it retracted on a z06? How much of it shows and what is the ground clearance on a z with the extra front air dam. thanks.

That is slick!!!!!

My car is registered in AZ so I don't need a front plate but if and when I do have to register in a state that requires one, this is the product I will get. Awesome!

This is the exact same as the original non-remote model, I know its been tested up to 85mph, more than that I don't know, but it will hold, it locks into place.
I really want to buy this, as I will be taking the Vette to Germany next year--they ONLY run radar via cameras. But, let me repeat...I'm taking the Vette to Germany....

so, anyone REALLY speed test this thing yet? "Highway Speeds" even in States to me is usually over 100mph...

on the German autobahn.....PLEASE!

I really don't want this thing flying off the car, but I would need to have the plate showing every time I drive the car back onto the US Army base.

Sorry for asking again - but are there pics of one installed on a Z06? I don't see pics anywhere.

I have one of these, but have never installed it. I got it when I had my C6 (non-Z06) and didn't install it because you can't completely hide the track that the plate rides on. The unit must be installed such that the leading edge of the track is flush with the front edge of the bumper, because the plate rests against the front edge of the track when in the "UP" position. Since the C6 bumper has a curved underside, and the underside sits at a slight upward angle, the track ends up being clearly visible (even in the retracted position), IMO, when installed correctly.

Now I have a Z06. I still haven't installed it because I am trying to figure out the best way to do so. On a Z06 the lower lip of the bumper actually sits below the bottom surface of the bumper, which creates a different problem. The unit would have to be mounted on a block or spacers that would bring it down low enough to clear the lip. This should work fine and would be easy. However, you then have the unit mounted quite low - the lip on the Z is pretty low already, and I feel like this unit would be in danger of scraping on things. Looking at the unit, I feel like this would damage it. Additionally, you'd still be able to see the track when in the retracted position. Granted, this is better than staring at a front plate...

What I would like to do this winter is develop a servo motor driven gizmo that would allow the whole unit to sit behind the lip when retracted. When activated, the servo would dip the front end of the track down and forward, to clear the front lip. This kind of project is fun for me since I'm a mechanical engineer. But it's a case of finding the time to do it.
