Default Clear roof panel anyone?

I have a 2013 Grand Sport. I'm beginning to wish I had opted for the clear panel when I purchased the car. Anybody:
have one they never use,
wish they hadn't spent the money on it in the first place,
are tired of having to store it in their hatch,
moved it into the closet because it was always in the hatch,
think this clear top thing is like a boat - best when bought and then sold.

If it's the best thing since sliced bread, any way to get one besides a dealer?

Thanks,
Pops

I have a 13 GS also. Last weekend, at our club car show, a guy with a C4 told me he hates his clear top. He said he bakes no mater the weather. He tried tinting it and that didn't help. I've come damn close to ordering one from Gene. Since you leave yours on, what's your take on that?

Just get one of those suction cup stick on covers for when it's really hot and leave it in the back hatch area when it's not. I have a painted top on my VY C6, but when I had a black one it had the clear top. I just treated the clear top the way I'd treat the windshield on a hot day. If it was over 80, I'd put the windshield shade up as well as the roof cover.

You can't see the suction cups from the outside and it looked factory on the side when covered. That way you don't get the baking effect and you can just pull it down when you cruise.

I miss the clear top and if I had the $$ to get one locally now I would.

Where do you live?
Lots of sun?
Other replies complain about the heat coming through their clear top.

I tinted my car windows with IR tint and it is amazingly cool inside compared to a car without IR tint, so I was contemplating buying the top and using IR tint. The AC keeps up much better too once it catches up after firing up the motor on a hot San Antonio day.

Did that guy mention whether or not he used IR tint?

He didn't. He just said he tinted it on the inside. I had to google IR tint. Infra Red. Lots of debate on that one. I've not heard of that before. Sounds like tint is developing nicely.

Love the clear top. It can get a little hot in Dallas but nothing the AC can't handle. I would love to have both tops but would rather have the clear.

Our 2011 GS came factory optioned with both tops. We used the clear top for the first two days when we picked the car up in the middle of summer in Portland and drove down to Gateway Canyons in Colorado. We baked until we put the solid top on! The car now lives with us in New Zealand and apart from a 1 week stint, we only use the painted top.

I picked up a clear top in the fall, so far so good in Dallas, haven't put the painted top back on yet. I put one of those cling shades on it preps for the summer, I think I should be good for the summer, but of course it's only hit the 90s a couple times so far this year. I'm really hoping I can stick with the clear, love the open feel it gives me. Being 6'2" tall, it makes a huge difference in the overall feel. Also the suction cup shade gets annoying being a little taller than average, feels like a loose headliner rubbing on my head sometimes. Also if I can make it through with the clear will be blacking out my halo...

The tinted roof panels are great, especially if you have the sunshades that some other owners refer to above. I have a set of the two-piece shades from DS Vettes & love them. The two-piece set is easier to store than the one-piece type, and if you or your passenger want the shade off while the other wants theirs on, you have that option. Temperature reduction is huge plus they do give the look of a factory type headliner. One of the best aftermarket products available for your vette.

I purchased a liner for underneath the roof and it works good to keep the inside of the Corvette cool. It is suction cups and you don't see any from the outside

I live in Vegas, clear top is on car about 9 months out of the year. Solid top goes on in the summer. Really nice to have both because the clear top bakes the inside of the car in the summer. I made a custom mount for my garage to store the one not in use on the wall safe and sound.

My GS came with the solid top... I wished I had a clear top and purchased one... OMG the car gets so freaking hot when its on... like mentioned above, it does not matter what time of the year it is. I hardly ever use the clear top now but have it just in case I get the itch to put it on.
