Does it require a trip to the dealership to disable the security?

That I'm not sure about. It worked fine prior to removal and was never in security mode. I removed this from a running driving car and used on multiple occasions.

Yes it will have to get someone with a tech11 to clear the anti-theft system, it will only happen when it is installed into another car, it will work immediately after installed, then as soon as the car is powered off and restart, the anti-theft will activate and nothing will play or display beside Anti-theft, most people with a tech11 will charge about $100.00 to about $150.00 to unlock it, which is just about 3 mins job, stereo don't have to remove to do it but some are just ridiculous, if anyone has a personal tuner for their car, it can be done for free or a tip.

What kind of tuner are u referring to? As in a HP tuner or sct or are u talking about a scan tool? I’m curious about this because I watched a diy about hav install in a c6 that came from a z06 and the guy that did the video acted like it was no big deal to just casually go to the dealership and have them reset it.

Its a very easy and fast fix but the technician has to have a tech11, go into stereo mode and remove anti theft, I did it twice with two different navigation units, most technician just takes a tip, some charge about $100.00- $150.00, if you have a shop with a tech11 that usually works on your car, they will probably do it for free, now there are different scanners that can do the trick besides a tech11, but I just don't know the names, reason is because the last one I did, my nephew that work in a shop on different types of vehicle came home by me with a scanner and cleared the anti theft system.
