Question on oil pressure sending unit
When this sensor fails, can it fail slowly by reading lower and lower pressures, or does it fail all at once? Had my car, with a new engine, on the dyno last week, and when finished, drove the car home and immediately noticed the oil pressure guage was reading 30 lbs lower than normal. Called my tuner and his response was that the sending unit was failing ???
No “death noises” coming from the engine. Cooland and oil temps normal.
BUT, I always thought when these sensors failed, they pegged to zero?

I've had one fail on corvette and one on GM truck. Corvette did the classic max out reading, truck went to 0 and would bounce back and forth sometimes reading and sometimes not (and setting off all kinds of alarms when it went)
So--change it and see what happens is my opinion.

If I were you I'd see about replacing it ASAP because if you really are 30psi low you've definitely got an issue going on internally.
