Default Scanner not picking up Traction control codes

Is it normal for a cheapo scan tool to not pick up codes related to the Service Traction System messages? Do I need to use a Tech 2 or something similar to pick up what could be the cause of this message. The message went away but I want to be ready for the next time it occurs so I can figure out what is the cause. I suspect a wheel bearing but would like to know exactly which one. Would the Tech 2 tell me that info? This is on a base 2005 z-51.

Thanks

My cheepo reader will only read ECM codes- events that set the "check engine" light. Codes from other modules are a no-go.

I got a Snap On scanner a year ago on eBay, cost a grand, but it reads codes. The Vette tax.

Is that similar to what the Tech 2 would give? or is that Snap On one yet another level?

It will do all kinds of cars, but I have only used it on Chevrolet's around here. It is a SOLUS Pro, not the newest, works on up 2016 if I remember and that covers my trucks and Vette. My wife's 2019 Traverse is on another level anyhow. Unsolicited plug, it is a really great car.

I bought it because of the same issue you are having. Cleared the code once and that was it. It will read the wheel speed sensors, which would be of help if the problem. If your zip is 33442, you are too far away to help.

I'll have to dig up the sellers name if I can. I'll be back.

Anyone in the Boca / West Palm Beach (work in 33442 and live in 33473) area have a tech 2 or similar that would be willing for a meetup?

All of your less expensive scanners will only read P codes. Some of your SnapOn will read further but the GM/Bosch scanner is the only on that will read everything and control function. Getting into series 11 software or Global it requires a MDI with GDS software.

You can get one for a hundred bucks that will read abs and traction control codes and any auto parts store or amazon...they will also tell you long verse description of the code and you and get the most likely fix as well...Some will even estimate pricing of parts and labor for the fix...
