hi all
I have just bought a c6, with z51 performance package, and I have some questions , what is the best Exhaust system available in the market as well as the headers of the , I want the maximum horse power , and air filter
I have the kooks system. perfect fit, looks factory. I also have the magnaflow cat backs. They sound great. No cabin noise. With tunning I'm now making 390RWHP. No codes, no check engine light, nothing.
Be very careful spending your money on aftermarket air intakes. No matter what they post, there not making the power they say. Check the forum, hail tech trashed there air intake for the C6, because they could only make 3-4RWHP, for $400 not worth it. Hail tech is a stand up guy for saying so and returing the pre-order money he collected. Just cut your primary covers off flush with some K&N's #33-2136, keep the secondary cover in place to protect from water, and your good to go. My tunner is Ron Zimmer and he said that's about as good as it's going to get. $100 invested in the K&N's. I run a 160 stat same as I ran in my C5. Car runs between 176-180, oil temps at 205 hot enough to keep the oil free from impurties. I reason that if tunners like Graham at LPE put 160's in there 500 HP packages then it's good enough for me.
I've been on more dynos than you can count. And what i've found out is you can jiggle that dyno to say what ever you need it to say, if you need to say it bad enough.

andreas g.,
What is your opinion on the #33-2136 K&N's ? I just got a couple but some members are not recommending I use them. They are saying the K&N's flow less air. What is your experience with them? Thanks!

K & N or any oil paper filters are great and do have higher air flow at first. With a few months they get dirty and then restrict the air flow so they must be cleaned frequantly, i.e. evey few months. I have two and change them every other month.
Just like any air filter, good when new, not so good when a few months old and dirty.
I don't like the people who say it doesn’t work but haven’t tried it themselves. Why listen to them? Don't be a sheep.
Aftermarket air filters DO work. Just not on a dyno.
I am proof. I was running 13.0 for months. Then installed the Vortex and now I am running 12.5
Bottom line is mine worked. It was the best bang for the buck! Even better than headers IMHO.
Run at the track and then install an airbox. I guarantee you at lease 2-3 tenth and 2-3 mph.
I was running 108mph and now 111. Nuff said.
Andreas. Go to the 1/4 mile with your car. Then install the Vortex. You will be a believer then. I promise. But you won’t and you’re a stubborn man
I agree 100%, the C6 airbox can definitely be improved. You only have to look at the recent Halltech results to know that, why did his car go so lean that the cat overtemp kicked in if the stock box was already allowing for all the air the motor needs? Maybe the MAF was just so confused by the new airbox that the PCM couldn't deal with it, but I doubt it. It's more likely that the MAF read enough extra air that it passed a threshold and went into overtemp protection, and that means there's more power in there. A month or two from now everyone will be installing air filters, modifying the COTP threshold, and making bigger numbers on the dyno. Then all this silly stuff will be forgotten.

thanks alot guys in advance
The best catback system is the one that has the sound you like with no cabin resonance. For me that was the GHL, great looking, supercar sound, quiet cruise and no cabin resonance or hamonics (without the addition of an X-pipe or resonators). I had Corsas on my C5, and I like these better. Truthfully, I don't know that there is a significant HP difference between any of them, but the 15 pound weight savings is a horsepower or two. Just my opinion... (Pictures on another thread)

I totally agree with this. The dyno doesn't measure what happens when the filter is getting cold air ...ie car is moving. Another thing to consder is that as head and cam packages (and more FI, ect) appear the air requirements of those motors will climb and may show greater gains for intake systems that can flow more. Why would there be resistance to 3-4 HP at 100 bucks when people pay 1200 for the same power from an exhaust?
If for no other reason than to save money on paper filters, I changed mine. These are the ones I used and it al came to 110 bucks or so:

What is the part # for the K&N's you are using? And did you have any tuning just for filters? Did you notice any power loss with them?

Just want to know since I already have them, can I use them without lossing any performance? ........without a tune? I kind of find it hard to believe K&N filters require tuning.... How much more air can they possible flow? I thought I read a thread were there was not difference in hp on a dyno between K&N , stock filter and NO filter. Just a little confused.
