Your pipes are 2.5 so a 2.5 X pipe makes sense unless you have gone to a 3 inch custom system. A 3 inch x on a 2.5 system is not going to give any more hp than a 2.5 x pipe.

i believe the consensus is that 2.5" pipes will do fine up to around 500 hp.
if you've got 3" collectors on the headers you will either need to get a reducer to connect to the 2.5" x or run full 3" exhaust of put the reducer after the x and use any of the currently ava. cat back systems (B&B Bullets rock).
you may lose some low end torque due to the larger pipes but it will run better in the top end.

Thats what i have always read. A larger pipe will get you more HP but a smaller pipe will give more back pressure leading to more TQ. Thats why supposedly the new z has valves to open at high RPM best of both worlds i guess. Of course it has 3" exhaust stock from the factory.
