Default Z06 Spoiler on a Z51

Does anyone have any info / opinions on aerodynamic effects that the Z06 spoiler might have on Z51 at 90mph to 120mph range? I'm wondering about front end lift since the Z06 has obviously been redesigned to force more air over the car.

That's mostly bogus GM marketing hype. The nose of the Z06 is "open bottomed" just like the Coupe/Convertible, so the any extra air that goes through the front, still dumps out the bottom and spills around the sides. A true splitter has a sealed bottom, and forces air either throught the radiator, OR over the top of the car.

I put a Z06 rear spoiler on my Z51, just for looks, and it really isn't very big. You will not feel any difference. It is not in the clean air, as it is the same width as the OEM.

Have you noticed any less dirt accumulation on the back of the car with the Z06 spoiler?

not so far. It is far too narrow to make an appreciable difference. Anyway, it would create MORE updraft behind the car, not less, so I would expect it to make it worse.

I usually wash my car when it gets dirt on it, however.

I can confirm the Z06 spoiler makes no difference whatsoever in dirt accumulating behind the car. Still gets narsty.

Default Looks

I had my car up to a little over 150mph and it still felt stable before the spoiler install. As posted above I primarily did it for looks.

Did you remove the little "GM" badge between the door and rear wheel? Or did was that badge added for '06?

It is probably my favorite mod to date. I have the painted one from the "Vette Shop". It has absolutely no aero dynamic effect, and how could it, look how small it is. Very subtle and appealing mod in my opinion.

Doubtful you'll notice any aero effect on street or highway as there are too many other things going around you to disrupt air flow......such as other cars and tractor/trailers !!!!

Yes. Z51 is not a model like a Z06. It is a suspension and performance package. It is a C6 just like every other C6.

Cool, will have to file this away for when I buy my C6, I know all of the C5 Z06 components work on the non Z C5 and they offer a lot of bang for the buck. But I was getting the impression from reading threads here in the C6 forums that the Z51 was it's own unique model - " will these floor mats fit my Z51"

I thought this long time vette enthausist had missed something because when I went out to GMBUYPOWER to spec one out I couldn't find a Z51 model. The title of this post is an example that can confuse folks.

Thanks

Yes, some people are overly proud of their choice of the Z51 option package on the base car.

And they should be. Not only is it getting hard to come by but the benefits of the package are certainly noteworthy. Not like the C5's where you got some different springs and bars. For the $1600, I doubt you could go out and get your transmission redone with the better gearing along with the brakes and suspension upgrades. It is a great bang for the buck.

Its isnt a different model. Its an option package. It wont get you down a backroad even one second faster. In the real world on a real backroad performance is on par. Just the way it is. Even EB2003 wont argue the point. Change the final on the base cars and you get better gearing in every way since you dont have the wider ratios (on a stick car, they are now the same on autos) compromising your performance, a better ride, will beat a Z51 in every measure of acceleration, still pull in the same highway milage, all for the same price. Both cars will STILL be equal on a real world backroad. This has been gone over a thousand times and Im not going to jack this thread to elaborate. If your happy with your purchase then its good but ya got nothing to crow over.

Ya, you will still have to change the final to get there and even that will likely cost more than the Z51 option installed and you still have to bump the performance suspension to be even with the option which will cost you even more. It was a killer option package for the money. If it wasn't worthy at all why would GM make it other than marketing? Why does it consistently run .2 quicker in the 1/4, still run faster around the track? Granted, if none of these things matter do the owner, then it has no value at all. I like it, I use it and it rides nicer than my C5 standard car did.Iit was definately money well spent.
