I was told by several tuners, as well as a very popular header manufacturer (LG), that it's less than 5. Now I'm sure that's relative to what you are doing to the engine, and if you add more cubes, the restriction will hurt you more. Stock displacement, probably not a big deal, as they noted, and you shouldn't have to worry about passing emissions.

No cats = very loud for sure, of course depending on your exhaust choice! The HP issue is really not an issue though. If it's loud you're worried about, I'd stick with the cats to be a little more safe.

if you have the stock exhaust and no cats, it's barely louder. People think my car is stock sounding.

Anyway, I would say about 5 rwhp difference too.

What did your HP look like, I'll look around here to see if I can find it!

But seriously, the high flow Cats are straight through with a matrix you can see through. Take a look at this article:

http://www.vetteweb.com/tech/0501vet_lgpipes/

They gained less than a horsepower by taking the cats out. So it comes down to the following:

1) Leaving the cats out saves you $300.
2) Leaving the cats out causes a louder exhaust and a lot of rasp (sounds like a garbage truck)
3) Power wise it's not worth hardly anything
4) Leaving the cats in is good for emmisions and the quality of the air we all breathe.

So spend the $300 and put the cats in, it's worth it for a smoother sound and cleaner air.

Thanks,
Glenn

+5-7 RWHP - Louder - $300 less What's the decision?

I'm sold - no CATs for me
