Default Header question?

Adding long or short headers will it cause the engine light to come on? And what are the down sides of adding them? Warranty?

I installed American Racing headers myself. No check engine light (CEL) and I have been running them for months now. The only down side is emmisions if it applies in your state. Many dealers will still honor you warranty with them installed, besides you can always switch back if you have a major problem.

Most of the check engine lights resulting from headers are from the rear O2 sensors. A good tune will keep them from happening. If you installed yourself and you are careful with the O2 sensors you will probably not have a problem.

If you install headers, you should get a tune. Headers allow for a much more effecient AF ratio and timing settings

I've done headers on an 01 Z28 and an 06 C6. Got the CEL's on the 01 Z28 and a tune didn't make the CEL's go away until they actually turned off those codes in the computer.

Luckily I have not had any CEL's with the LG Pro LT's on my C6.

I had the PO430 rear o2 code & light with my headers. I'd reset it and it would come back a day later until I got the tune and the code was turned off.

My DynaTech headers have been on the car for about 3 weeks now. No CE lights. I had the headers Jet-Hot coated. Thats helps keep the heat inside the tubes, and lights off the Hi-flow cats quicker. Very satisfied with their system. Easiest install I've ever had. All the parts were in the box. Bought them from Tybrne. BIG

Kooks long tubes -- no problems after 2-years.

One down side could be emission test. In California they must be CARB (California Air Resorces Board) approved. Some test stations check and others don't. I put Doug Thorley headers on my motorhome and I was ask for the approval several times but most of the time I was not asked.

I had Dynatech headers for about 3 months before getting a tune and have had no problems with check engine lights before or after the tune.

I've got LG Pro long tubes minus the cat (off road) and I have the check engine light. I plan on having them turn it off when I have it tuned.
