Default C6 Z06 front brake duct install with Pics

While installing my HID foglights I installed my C6 Z06 brake ducts. They attach to the factory holes under the bumper and get the air behind the tire so you can mount a brake duct hose to direct air to the backside of the rotor where it can do some good. These are the best deal in town for you guys that track your cars! Thanks to user M_Minnick for the idea, more information in this post:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...php?t=1514267:

The part#'s are:
15829066 - RH
15829067 - LH
The best part is the price - $5.60 each! What a bargain.

To install them:

1. Remove wheels.
2. Remove 9 push pins from front of wheel well and pull it back.
3. Remove factory duct that stops right inside of wheel well (very useless)
4. Trim bottom of the wheel well hole to get the Z06 duct to fit through and line up properly. As a guideline, I had to trim the bottom of the hole about 1/4" from one slot to the other slot where the original duct fit. It cuts like butter with a utility knife. Once you get the Z06 duct installed, but before you screw it to the frame, you can still trim the hole to get a nice fit.
5. Once you get the duct mounted how you like it, drill a small hole in the frame and install a self tapping bolt to hold it in place. Button up the wheel well and you're done! The front of the duct does not line up exactly perfectly with the duct under the bumper but it is really close and certainly close enough. If you are worried about it you could use a little duct tape to seal it up. I wasn't that worried about it.

Here's a pic of the finished product:

Size: 77.3 KB

Now all I need to do is get some brake duct hose - I'll zip tie it to the active handling sensor mount like I did on my C5. That worked just fine. You can also get spindle mounts from DRM or LG I think but they are pricey.

Took me longer to do these write ups than the mods. They were easy.

Joe G,

I installed the ducts this weekend, and if you trim enough of the vertical piecs, they will attach to the front piece of the duct. I would take pictures, but mine looks just like yours.

This is a fantastic mod for the money spent. Thanks for researching it for us!

Cool I might try that next weekend, I'm installing trans and diff temp gauges so might fool with this a little more. I didn't see that further cutting would me there but heck, it's easy to cut and now that I know it will work I'll go ahead.

It really is a GREAT deal, isn't it! I'm surprised more track guys don't jump all over this. I understand it works with the C5 as well.

UberR32, glad to hear it! Brake ducts made a big difference for me on my C5. Like having brakes vs. a foot full of nothing. I'm glad we have a cheap alternative on our C6's. Can't wait to hit the track and test them out.

Jeff, I think you need a parachute. Don't bother with these small ducts.

Where do you get the brake duck hose to connect to the active handling sensor mount as you state. Please fill in with details or show pictures to help in doing this. My dealer did not have brake duct hose. My new ducts should be in tomorrow if they are in the Dallas/Ft worth warehouse. Thanks.

Joe - Thanks for sharing. How often do you find a mod this effective for downright cheap? Ducts are on order. Now to get some hose coming - is 3" id right? Thanks again....

2 1/2 is what I've read, but haven't bought mine yet. I'm sure it's not 3, I had that on my C5 with DRM ducts and these are not that big. Attaching the hose to the duct will be a bit of a challenge, the duct is thin and there's not much space to clamp to. Some but not a lot. I'm thinking a clamp covered by some black duct tape that I have will be right in order. Hey, it's racers tape, right?

The C6Z06 Ducts outlets are 2.5"
I tried to attach extension hoses to blow directly on the rotors, I could not make it work for me. The only way I can see it happening and being able to stand up to the conditions is to either reinforce the the outside of the outlet with fiberglass so you could get a hose clamp on there tightly or cut up some naca ducts and fiberglass a stout hose nipple to the outlet of the Z duct. The good news is since I have added the Z06 ducts and PFC 01 pads I have not had any fade on the racetrack running wider wheels with RA1's on them.

I'm wondering that with the Z06 ducts on a Z06 they are better lined up with the rotor and do not need duct hose, does anyone know this answer? If I remember correctly, the Z06 clearance to the ground is one inch lower than the basic C6 which would affect the alignment of the duct to rotor. Is that fender shroud different from the basic C6, maybe it would align better than the cut modification? I would appreciate any feedback from Z06' owners, can't normally find any Z06's on display at dealers, I have only seen one in the last year on the dealer floor. If course, when I need one I can't find one.

Looks like you can seal around the duct with black silicone sealant for a finished look.
