By the way, I have a 2005 C6 3.42 gear rear diff with only 7500 miles on it for sale in the C6 for sale section for anyone that blew one up and needs a core for 1/2 price. I had it swapped out for a 4.10 unit and this one is working fine.
I have heard that the 2005 models had weakness problems with differentials which was fixed late in the model year and in the 2006 and up models. Could this have been PART of your problem. I was wondering if that was true about the 2005's.

Does anyone read prior posts on a thread before they type? This is why false info never dies.
I already said there was no change in my rear from my friends early 2005 and I had the last week's run of the z51 late in 2005. Nothing was changed on my rear compared to the early 2005's. The cases break long before the internals. Cartek disected a 2006 and showed the internal and case changes early in 2006 but that rear doesnt bolt up to a 2005. I once again invite anyone with info on 2005 multiple diff versions to post their proof.
One vendor claims to have put a 2006 carrier on a 2005 but the transmission mounting surface is different and they refused to share their knowledge with anyone to back up the false claim that 2005 and 2006 carriers were "interchangeable between themselves" (exact quote). My point: I have seen no proof of multiple 2005 rear diff case versions and anyone that says so should post pictures. I'm sure there were internals changes but that applies to every year. The case was the weak point and remained unaddressed until 2006. Show the case if you say otherwise.
