My car is a late 05 and has had zero issues aside from a shifting problem after I swapped to a stronger clutch. It was a shifter alignment issue that I caused. My power upgrades promted a level 4 transmission but the shifter while it never has an issue going into first now, seems to not like reverse. I will get a better shifter and revise my opinion at that time.

51K miles on my 05 A4 Z51 built Dec 04:

1 DRL replaced under warranty, dealer gave me the bulb and I replaced it.

Transparent top squeaks fixed by me with heat shrink on the pins.

Squeaky drivers window fixed by me with grease on the track.

AC charge reduced from 1.4 lbs to 1.1 lbs, now blows 57° in 100° weather with no cycling.

Trunk release button has a mind of its own but I don't use it often enough to fool with it.

21mpg in mixed driving with almost 15K miles between oil changes according to the DIC and not a drop burned in between. This has been, by far, the best commuter car I've ever owned.

For those with the trunk release button issue, you can relapce it or clean it out and put it back in with electric tape wrapped around the outside of the button to prevent dirt from getting into it. I had to do this 3 months after getting the car and it never happened again. I cleaned the existing button. This was a write-up by a forum member complete with pictures 2 1/2 years ago.

My 05 has been great. Replaced rear clutch plates, telescopic steering wheel connection was loose and rear deck compartment doors didn't close tightly.
No complaints about this first year model.

2005 convertible built late January 2005, museum delivery, manual transmission, Z51, no other options. Have added after market tunnel plate and Corsa sport exhaust. Only problems so far have been poor alignment from factory fixed by dealer, chatter in rear end fixed by dealer per TSB (replace differential fluid/additive, figure eights), trunk lid rubbing against tonneau also fixed by dealer, top chafing in spots which I have ignored as top is usually down unless it is raining. I have been reluctant to allow anyone to mess with the top because it is so well sealed-no wind noise or leaks. Almost 23000 miles, really very few problems. Overal, very pleased with car. BTW, I live in Chattanooga, TN. Have you considered purchasing the GMPP? They ain't cheap, but it might help you sleep better.

Default I think I win for the most issues...

1. Replaced Steering position sensor.
2. 2 Rear ends replaced and the current one resealed twice.
3. 3 Tops and 1 repair.
4. Blew 2 coil packs
5. Seat repostions from memory setting on an occassional basis.
6. Brake sqeal
7. Power Steering leak
8. Shifter rattle
9. Replaced all remote sensors and key fobs.
10. Replaced battery
11. Replaced Starter
12. Replaced Alternator
13. Broke drivers side half shaft
14. Telescoping steering stopped working
15. Drivers door doesn't automatically unlock most of the time.
16. Had the HVAC controls replaced
17. Had to have the wobbly Harmonic balancer replaced
18. Replaced both front 02 sensors due to heater failures.
19. Currently Stuck in Third Gear!!! Dont know why yet...

I also lemon law'd this car and recived a 11,800. settlement and kept the car. I have almost 50,000 miles on the car now.

As with any first year model Vette purchase, you just have to take it "One day at a time". I also own an 84' that I'm still working through issues on, you'd think I would of learned...

o5 A4, 14k miles now, daily driver.

*Had roof reglued (no noise prior or after)under recall
*fuel door nag wouldn't go away, and dealer replaced the pgm (computer ?) to fix that
*been in twice for rear hatch button sticking, and I have never been able to get it open as per the thread somewhere here, but found using a garden hose at pressure works just fine to clean it
*been in twice for radio cutting out when passenger door opened and closed, dealer never did anything to fix it tho, and I found that shutting down ignition and opening and closing the door resets it.
*Going in this week to check out front end clunking noises on slow speed turns...something loose ?

Love this car ! Unless the next one is built in China, I'll buy it.

I have an '05 built in January 2005 with 14k on the clock. I drive the **** out of it and have had no issue. No leaks or problems at all. It is not a daily driver, just a toy. I'm sorry you've had so many issues.

I have made several mods

Ported intake
Ported throttle body
Vararam intake
American racing headers
DTE Phase II 4.10 reared

Next week:

Heads and cam package
Borla mufflers

Default Things were going so well but now...

It had been so long since my '05 has given me any issues but now it's acting up again. Its like there are gremlins in the electrical system.

1. the doors only ssem to open when the feel like it. Passenger door seems worse than drivers and trunk works great almost all the time. I change the battery in the FOB and can be holding it virtually against the door and the darn thing still will not open

2. on rare occasions the HVAC will not turn on and on one occasion the defog funciton would not shut off

3. the radio, oh that balsted nav radio is the biggest piece of... I've had 3 different units installed and gave up. It seems to get hung up and will not let me turn it off, adjust the volume, or change the source (CD/XM/etc...)

Item 1 on this list is buggin me the most right now. I've found a few posts about the RCDLR (Remote Control Door Lock Receiver) having issues and I am interested to hear if anyone else has input that might help me reduce the labor cost of diagnosing this issue.

My 05 was built 03/05. I'm owner #2. I have 37,500 Miles on it

Diff. Fluid changed 2 times with new clutch pack

"Service the "Active Handling: Replaced the "YAW" sensor

Other than the above items I've had no problems with it and I enjoy driving it. The Chevy Dealership that I take it to have been very good with the car and myself. I never had any problems with them. I bought the GM extended warrenty and have not used it as yet and hope I don't have to. Hope you get the "Bugs" out

'05 A4 vert, 27k no issues*.

*Did get a "check gas cap" message on DIC. Replaced cap, message went away. 1 week later message returned. Had tuner remove the message via software. Although irritating for a couple days, I don't consider this much of an issue.

Sorry you've had so many problems with yours

First thing I'd do is disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or more and let the car reboot.
