I just received a B&M shifter from a forum member. Thanks TTDSOM
There is no part number on the B&M, but is has the two part stick with a threaded and slotted end. It came in Hurst box with Hurst instructions, so I have a couple of questions.
I assume that the small coiled springs in the box were for the Hurst.
There was no base gasket in the box. Does the B&M use the factory base gasket or will I need to make a new one? If I need to make a new one how thick should the gasket be?
I there any adjustment on the B&M? It seems to require almost no effort to move the stick around in a circle, is this normal? I guess I expected the shifter to require more effort to move.
Do I need to make any modifications to the factory upper rubber boot?
B&M comes with no spring, those must be for the Hurst.
B&M comes with a translucent plastic gasket, the factory gasket will probably tear with the removal of the factory shifter, so you should make a new one.
There is now adjustment on the B&M.
No modifications to the factory boot are required.
You may way to use some white lithium grease in the factory plastic cup where the ball on the bottom of the shifter pops into to silence rattling.
B&M comes with a 17 page inst book. Also look on the web at vette mag for install help and on forum. I used all 3 to get thru install. Mine came setup for C5 so I had to spin it 180 deg. I used synthetic grease on mech so it doesn't rattle.
I couldn't get rid of the rattle no matter what I tried with the B&M, ordered a callaway today and the B&M is going back to the ebay seller as soon as the callaway arrives, hopefully this will fix the rattle.
the B&M comes with a plastic gasket, 4 bolts which replaces the stock bolts when mounting the shifter, and 1 small bolt to hold the shift **** and instructions sheet. Instructions are helpful but there are better sources for details on removing the center interior trim, just do a search. The shifter can be used on a C5 or C6 but it does have to be in the correct setting depending on which vechicle its going in (adjusting is a simple procedure).
