Default Is an exhaust crossover now stock on 2008's?

My 2008 arrived yesterday and, of course, I had to put it up in the air to check what it looks like underneath (I have a hoist in my shop). I was surprised to see a factory crossover on the exhaust. I wasn’t aware that non Z06, C6 Corvettes came with a factory crossover. Is this something new to the 2008’s? I also noticed written on the pipe was “NPP”, so maybe a crossover is included with the NPP exhaust and was mistakenly added to my car even though mine does not have the NPP mufflers. I don’t know?

This photo is underneath the car (obviously) and looking forward towards the engine and clutch.

Obviously they do. Cheaper to have one single mid pipe for both options, npp or stock.

They did it to cut down on the decel pop on npp equiped models.

I am surprised though that its an add in, with those extra pipe welds. Probably built in some foreign country with cheap labor, not something I'd like on my C6.

All C6s had a crossover but on the LS2s it's an H pipe and yes new for 2008 it is now an X pipe.

It is interesting about the semi cheapie looking weld job though.

I'm sorry, the more I look at this pic in disbelief, the madder it makes me. WTF were they thinking using this POS pipe? I would never expect this from GM, its embarising....

Look at the pipe in front on the right side. I'm starting to think this is some cheap midas add in hoax.

Should be NPS not Npp written on there. NPS - Now piece of Sh&t

The Caddy verts built in Bowling Green have been using this x-pipe for awhile now, seems they finally are installing them on the vettes.

Noticed the "poor X" when I removed it to install LT headers, cats, and x pipe. I also thought it looked hokie.

The design concept of an “add in” part didn’t surprise me, but all of the extra welding required to mate the two stamped halves, did. And yeah, it does look a little cheap, but it’s also underneath the car so the only time I will ever see it is when the car is on the hoist. All in all, we would rather have an X style crossover/balance pipe there than not.

It may look "cheap" but I bet it helps the 08s run those higher numbers we have been seeing on the dyno runs.

I would not mind having that exhaust on my 05 if it added a few HP. The only way someone would see it ....... is if I ran them over and they noticed the welds as I drove over them.

$50,000? No way I would pay that for a new 08, C6 Corvette Convertible; I only paid $49,022.00.......well, plus tax & license.

This is very interesting. I personally do not care if this X looks cheap, if it works well.

I am planning on putting a Borla Stinger system on my 08 when I get it. I've been wondering about whether to buy the whole cat back or just the "rear section." Does anyone know if the Borla extra parts are the same size as the 08 stock parts? Why spend an extra 250 on pipes and X over if the stock pieces are the same size and performance?

Thanks for any responses.

-Dale
