My stock shifter was very stiff and notchy. I did the antivenom mod, shimming the detent ball out about 0.18". This workred well, nice easy, smooth shifts. My wife started complaining about missing the 2-3 shift though. I bought the hurst short shifter. Now, I am back to very stiff and notchy but with a shorter throw and massive rattle under heavy accelleration.
I am thinking of adding another shim to the detent plug. If that doesn't work the stock shifter is going back in. Any thoughts on losening up the hurst shifter AND eliminating the rattle?
I have a Hurst that has been in my car for over a year now and no rattles. You could try using the softer spring that came with the shifter. When I got mine ther was several different springs you could use to adjust it. I just left it with the spings that were in it and made sure everything was tight.
