Just came back from Moroso tonight.

Was really frustrated trying to launch the car. I dont know how the hell you guys manage a 1.9 60' with this car...

My best run of the evening was as follows.
R/T- 0.060
60'- 2.165
330'- 5.707
1/8- 8.547
mph- 87.42
1000'- 10.949
1/4- 12.979
mph- 111.22

Only thing done to the car is corsa sports.

I was giving it a soft dump at around 3k rpm and doing a nice burnout to clean & warm the tires a bit. Get a decent amount of hop then it goes. But how you get it to just grab I dont know. Or is it not suposed to just grab.

I want a 12.7....

EDIT: Forgot to mention its a 06 Z51 manual with 3400 miles.

.

and I think I'm done drag racing mine until I can get a decent drag radial on it. Even though I have only made about 6 passes.

No point going to the drag strip if you can't get traction

But it seemed with a lower RPM it would wheel hop then bog a bit.

I will try the lower RPMs next time though. I guess I gotta work the clutch a bit to get it to not slip too much without breaking the tires loose.

There is a fine line you have to find in feeding out the clutch. Don't "dump" it. That is where most of the axle hop comes from - you are shocking the tires and suspension when you dump the clutch. But you don't want to slip it TOO much either. You do want just a little tire spin, just not too much. Simple, huh?

Hey EB

Are you thinking of upgrading the rear with the addition of the drag radials ?

Thinking about doing the DTE brace. The DTE brace looks like a good addition.

But if you are talking hardened output shafts and such, no, I doubt it. I don't race enough to go to that extreme.

Mine is an 06 Z51 car, I took it out with 300 miles (great break in procedure), and it ran the following best

12.90 @113 MPH.

This is the first time i have driven a stick at the track, and only got a 2.1 60' on a hot and muggy day. Im pretty sure with some practice I can get much better. Im gonna get Jim to help me as he is a friend of mine that lives right down the road from me.

I did run some passes in the 13.1 range...while not proud of it, and ran 3 in the 12's. This was with traction control off, but active handling still on. Watched a little for the light but never came on.

After a few more miles, it will probably run even better too!

Okay, I finally got the "current C6" to the track tonight. As a little history, you see my time posted in the above threads. That was a year ago in the C6 Z51 coupe I had. Six months ago I traded it for a F55 convertible (six speed still). Conditions were good today, so I decided it was time to run it.

The car is stock except for the B&B Bullet exhaust. I still have the stock non-Z51 tires and ran them at 27# cold (about 29 at the track). Temperature was 60 degrees, no wind, low humidity and pressure about 30.15 and the track is at 24' elevation. Yes, I know - this is ideal!

Here is the Short version:

12.574 at 113.04. My 60' was a very mediocre 2.034. 1/8 mile was 8.225 at 89.54.

Long version:

Remember that it is a convertible, and I can never be sure if they will allow me to make more than one run because of no roll bar. First run, I bogged it pretty bad, so I backed off. If they were not going to let me run, I didn't want to waste it on that one.

Second run - clutch only came about half way up. I've heard of this, but it has never happened to me. Needless to say I aborted the run.

Third run - still not many folks at the track, so I got back in the staging area pretty quick. Fortunately, they had to clean up an oil spill on the track, so I had about a 20 minute cool down with the hood up. This made me feel pretty good about the clutch sticking. Ran the time I listed above.

Fourth run - when I came back from the third run, there were about 50 cars in line! Damn!!! This was also my first time in the left lane, so traction was unknown. Also, I decided to hold third gear (I shifted to fourth on the last run). Remember that a non-Z51 six speed redlines at about 114 in third. Traction was not as good. I ran a 2.074 60', and roasted the tires pretty good on the 1-2 shift. Also, holding third gear hit the rev limiter at the traps, which seemed to back my speed down. I only ran a 12.82 at 112.99.

That was it - done for the night. I feel good that I can now say I have had two C6's in the 12.5's. But I'm frustrated in that I feel certain that with more runs I could have gotten into the 12.4's. I have always gotten into the 1.95 range on my 60's. I should have lowered the pressure in the tires. Also, I would have shifted to fourth again - and run in the right lane!!!

One thing of interest. Comparing this car to the night I ran the 12.499 in the coupe, my best 1/8th time tonight was very much in line with most of my runs in the coupe, and the 1/8 speed was almost as good as my best in the coupe (89.54 in the vert, 89.95 in the coupe). What this tells me is that pulling the taller 3rd gear might be the biggest obstacle with the non-Z51.

By the way, I realize the B&B exhaust may be worth a little, feel free to factor that in however you wish.

All in all, no complaints though.

Could you give a brief description of how you launch.

I understand you slip the clutch a bit and also get the tires to slip just a bit.

What RPM do you hold and what is the approximate clutch release process?

Just trying to get the best baseline start point for my own trials.

Thanks. Great times btw!

Also, dropping the pressure in the runflats helps? I wouldnt think it made much difference....guess I was wrong.

I have a new time. I called Jim and asked how the track was, he said the conditions were good, so after the christmas party i was at ended, drove out there....

Showed up at 9pm, about 200 cars in line...bummer. Sat for over an hour in the staging lanes, knowing all i was gonna get is one pass.

Car cooled off nicely.

Got to the staging lanes, got a MUCH better burnout than the last time, Staged up ready to go

Revved up to a little over 2k rpm, dropped the clutch. Just a hair spinning, car feels strong....Hit 2nd gear....holy crap...spun for a good ways, then damn...hit the rev limiter going into 3rd, kept going, shifted a little early on the 3-4 shift, figured i wasnt even in the 12's. Overall, didnt feel like a good run.

Got to the booth figuring on a 13.xx time slip, and wow, its better than my best, (which for the record sux)

The slip read as follows
R/T .175
60' 2.046
1/8 8.384
1/8 MPH 87.63
1/4 12.797
MPH 112.65

Not as good as i was hoping, but still a better time than last time. Only got one pass, so i need a coold day with not as many cars to practice.

Note to self....must practice more...must practice more.
