Default Post your best 60fts on Drag Radials

Am curious what 60' times those with Drag tires on their C6 are running along with tire type (slick, bias or radial) brand and size along with wheel type/size.

I have C5 Z06 front wheels 17 x 9.5 with 275/40/17 MT ET Street Drag Radials for my C6 A6 but no times yet until track season opens.

Of note, the wheels weigh 18.6 lbs each and the MT ET's Streets weigh 31 lbs-which is 3.5 lbs heavier than the same sized BFG Drag Radial 2.

Are you retiring from burning out your runflats?? Do you think you can make more smoke with drag tires? What tire/wheel combo are you thinking about?

I dug out my 17inch Firebird wheels today, with almost 7 year old BFG drs on them and test fitted them on the vette and took it for a spin...the tires were shot, like marble, but the wheels fit fine and some Mickey Thompson Street radials are on their way as we speak. I retired the runflats before my last track outting, giving the PS2s a shot, but at that cost,I don't want to burn them up as fast as I did the rfs,and I wanna get tens before I die, do I'm gonna give it a try hopefully within a few weeks. Don't worry, I'll still smoke 'dem beeotches!!!

1.658. I have a friend that can get 1.4's with drag radials and a manual c5 z. I'm not that good but I get lots of 1.6's.

Joe,

I am going to have a very similiar setup re: little more hp, '05 Z51 6MN, rear stock (for now). My question what have you done to the rear other than 3:90s? I am concerned about the rear on the '05s & I am downright scared to try drag radials. What's you experience?

with my A6 1.71-1.73 on the spray 2.0's with boltons there is too much traction as you can not leave with enough rpm so my car is slower NA she runs 1.9's on the stock F1's.

BFG's 295/35/18 at 25psi on stock fronts

I'm in the same boat, i have been told that the 05 rear will grenade with sticky tires and wheel hop, LG is gonna swap out my rear and trans but it is $$$$.

Are you sure, I thought I'd read that the 275-40-17s are 28 pounds each?
I have them as well and I too will let ya know a week from Sunday.

Yes. I weighed them both today and could not believe it either, but true. 27.5 for the BFG's and 31 for the MT ET's. Am keeping both for the time being until I hear your report etc. on running the MT ET Streets on your A6. The BFG's have the tire diameter advantage too. I measured 25.75 for the MT ET and 25.375 for the BFG, both at 24 psi.

I have a hardened left shaft and a DTE brace in case my rear lets go, the brace should keep my trans from going with it.

I never ever dump the clutch. I let the clutch take the abuse of the 4500-5300 rpm launch by walking it out somewhat slowly, wait until traction is obtained and the car is moving then going WOT. I try really hard to avoid bogging the car with a dead hook and I don't really get any wheel hop. I would never race on runflats (they wheel hop, too hard) and I run 18 lbs in my drag radials to cushion the launch. Do not bog your car by letting the clutch out too fast is my advice. You might glaze your clutch a couple of times when you're first learning to do it but the clutch can take a few of those believe it or not. The rear can't take too many dead hooks.

I've got 200 runs on it. I guess pure luck has something to do with it too.

Here's how a 4500 launch sounds. This was my C5 but you can hear it well on this video. The guy in the left taught me how to do it.

Here's another vid where you can hear me launch, I spun a little on the launch on the first one and I had to feather the throttle a little. This will give you an idea how slow I'm releasing the clutch. I released just a little fast for track conditions resulting in this spinning.

I have a Tex clutch and ride the hell out of it. I blew a rear up last year slipping into the new stroker motor. Funny story. I was driving home from work. Father calls and asks how the car is running. I say pretty strong. He says, "hey isn't it test and tune at Atco". Yes it was. He says go see how fast it it. I slip the thing on hot run flats, launches good but 20 ft out hops and explodes. Still have no idea how fast the car is. Call father. Tell him his ideas suck

I think it would have been better on DRs. I just couldn't get out fast enough. I've got a C5 rear in it now. I'll try and break this one when I get home.

I can only pull 1.85 with my a6. What is the trick to get in the 1.7 range? Does your car have a converter? How do you launch?

Converter is stock, I foot brake it to 1650 and spray it with a 125 shot.

She ran 12.9 stock 12.5 with Vararam and Headers and 11.1 with a 125 shot and tires all here at altitude 2500'
