Toyo R888 or Hoosier A6/R6 for stock C6 rims
I like the C6 stock rims, so I've bought an extra set. I do both AutoX and Lap. Please help me to choose tires.
Option one - Toyo R888
Front - 255/35ZR18 94Y Reinforced, tread width 10.1"
Rear - 295/30ZR19 100Y Reinforced, tread width 11.8"
Option two - Hoosier A6 (auto-x) or R6 (road racing)
Front - P245/35ZR-18, tread width 9.1"
Rear - P295/30ZR-19, tread width 10.4"
Comparing the two
Toyo R888
- Reinforced
- ONE inch wider than Hoosier
- Optimum temp 200F
- More expensive than Hoosier, but not an issue
Hoosier
- Not reinforced
- One inch narrower than Toyo, I want to obey the rim width rule, so I won't go with a wider size
- Optimum temp, A6 145 F, R6 190 F
- Cheaper than R888
If I buy Toyo, the optimum temp seems only good for lap. If I go with Hoosier, should I buy A6 or R6? I do both auto-x and lap, I don't want to buy both A6 and R6, I already have 6 extra sets of wheels for my other cars in my basement, no more room!

I don't have either, but have been contemplating the same question. For me, it is an easy decision. The Toyos just for the simple fact that you can run them on the street.
I would like to use the 305 on the rear for the extra diameter, but I think they will be too big. Many have used 305s tires on the stock rears, but I have heard that these tires can slip.

Get the Toyos.
If you have to ask the difference the Toyos and Hoosiers, tire temp, Optimal tires temp, time at optimal tire temp and air pressures, ( yet you did not ask about tire heat cycles) or do you know the difference between the Hoosier R and A, then the Hoosiers are not for you.
You will be much happier with the Toyos until you have more experience under your belt.
Now is that a "shaved" or Unshaved" Toyo R888?
or maybe stick with street tires.
Hate to be so harsh but these are questions that get answered with your driving experience. Just because you can afford something does not mean that is the best option for you.
Good Luck and we have a AutoCross & Road race forum, with these questions are more aporprate. ( Under General Corvette - Autocross & Road racing)
