Default Welding magnesium

Is there a competent shop in the midwest that can narrow and reweld magnesium wheels?

Thanks

You can also ask your question in Wheels and Tires section of CF. Plus, swiftrider08 just had some wheels widened (not narrowed and most likely not magnesium either) at here: www.weldcraftwheels.com, in Michigan. They might be a place to at least ask the question of doing magnesium.

According to their site the do steel and aluminum. They don't mention magnesium. That was the first site I checked.

Mornin' Norm. I'm located in central KY, near Lexington. I have a set of magnesium wheels I would like to narrow by 1 inch and then reweld them. Presicion cutting and welding is an absolute must. You up to it?

Check with a metalurgist about getting them stress relieved (annealed) and re-heat treated to reduce the chance of cracking after welding. Magnesium wheels are not the same as aluminum wheels and the term "mag wheels" is used by both. Check the manufacturer's alloy specs to be safe and inform the welder of those results, so the proper filler material is used. Don't take chances with critical components by failing to investigate.
