Default What floor jack to buy?

I need a floor jack. What have you guys found to work best? I have ramps, but need a jack also.

Thanks!

Napa auto parts 2ton extreme steel floor jack. It is based on the old Lincoln floor jacks. Its the best corvette jack out there in my opinion. Around 300.00 with tax. It fits under my lowered car with room to spare. I wasted money on 3 different aluminum jacks before I bought this.

There are many decent floor jacks that'll get the job done. I still have thing for Craftsman tools so I have a 2 ton Craftsman aluminum floor jack. I also modified the jack so it better accepts the adaptor beams which allow me to lift the car at the preferred lift points. The Craftsman 2 ton aluminum floor jack costs about $190.00...less if you buy it when it's on sale. Here's an old link about modifying the floor jack. If you should want the photos that go with it PM me...I still have them.

BTW Sears treats their military employee's very well (at considerable expense). They go the extra mile for our Vets...a good company to support IMO.

a friend of mine in Naperville who has a '95 BMW M coupe with a 600 hp LS1 in it bought one of these setups w/casters a month ago. i have seen it in action first hand and decided i'm tired of stands, ramps, jacks, etc. i have joined this group buy and hopefully will have one soon. i realize it's pricey but if you saw it work and how easy and safe it is to lift a car then the price goes down plus it's portable. hopefully i will have it in a couple of weeks you can come by and check it out even if you go with the floor jack.

Pepboys has a reasonably priced/sized aluminum one that fits under my lowered car with room for the jacking pucks

I got that Costco Torin Aluminum Racing Jack and really like it. Only drawback is its height is too short to really raise the back end up under the frame so to raise both tires off the ground in one shot. I have to use it on each side of the car with my Eckler's Jacking Pucks under the rockers to change my rear and front DR's. No problem though. Easy to move around, very light to travel with and takes up little space. A steal for $110 shipped.

Default I got this one

Northern tool. It's low enough and long enough reach, but heavy and a bit awkward to use since it's so long. The quick lift is nice, but requires a good bit of effort.

I"ve purchased a light weight US General 3,000 lb capacity jack that looks exactly the same as the jack pictured. This jack has a low profile 3 1/8'' but extends to over 14''. I have no problems changing rear tires. Light weight and small enough to take to the the track. No leakage problems and I've had it for about 3 years. Purchase on sale for about 80 bucks from Harbor Freight. I hope this helps. Mike

I got the same aluminum jack at harbor freight for 60 bucks, I had it for about 3 years the only thing I found is you need to retighten the bolts on it now and then.

I try to use it on only one corner at a time, I don't think it is strong enough to work under the car useing just this jack alone, If I am going to be under the car I will use one of my steel jacks.

I have one craftsmam 2 ton that I bought in 1978 and it has been thru hell, and I have a parts store jack from advance auto, not the same quality as the craftsman but works good for what I paid 60 bucks.

Looks OK but would not call it "lightweight" at 46 lbs.

Harbor Frieght has the same jack - one about $115 for 1/1/2 ton and $150 for 2 ton. The ton lifts about 2 inches higher but both are 3 1/2" start height. So far good jack with no issues - does require a bit more effort because it goods to a full rise in about 5 strokes - fast and quick.
