I used the exact same battery in my WRX. Unfortunately when I first arrived in California my WRX's alarm kept getting set off by big trucks at night and the battery was drained multiple times. I wound up just installing a normal battery to replace the Odyssey. I'm not sure how well it will work with the Corvette as the compression ratio is nearly 12:1 compared to the boost-friendly WRX's 8:1 ratio.

I had the same battery in my daughters show car. We relocated the battery to the rear spare tire area. It's much colder here than in Cali and it just never worked out if the car went unstarted for a week.

Which battery, the Deka or the Odyssey? I didn't move the battery to the rear puposely because it puts more strain/load on it. It also adds more weight which defeats the purpose. Just my opinion.

We used the Deka gel. We had to relocate the battery due the Vortech super charger in her car called for the factory battery location. This car was a weight pig with everything on it so the weight diff wasn't the reason.

Obviously my temperatures here in Southern California are not going to be as "cold" as your neck of the woods. It has been rather cold here lately and my car went 4+ weeks without starting and still started up just fine. It did sound like it hesitated a hair after about one second of cranking. As I said before for a car that is started every week or two or three in fair weather I think the Deka battery is fine.

San,

I love when you Californians talk about cold (my family is in the Bay area)! It is below zero here in the Chicago burbs!!

But seriously, how much extra weight do you think relocating to the trunk adds? How heavy of a cable is needed? Can you get the ground at the rear frame area or are two cables needed?

First, I'm not a Californian. I retired from the Air Force and moved here for a job. These people crack me up with their parkas and gloves and scarves. They look like they're about to scale Everest. I've never even worn a jacket here. That said I did have ice on my windshield of my truck a few weeks ago (it's parked outside).

I believe the positive cable weighs around 5 pounds or more. Then you need the connectors on both ends and you need to fabricate a ground at the rear frame area or run another cable for a ground. You also have to use a battery that doesn't vent gas as the battery will be in the cabin.

The only reason I'd relocate the battery is to make room for a dry sump oil system, and I'm not convinced I can't find room without relocating the battery.

A full-blown ARE setup is better but I'm also considering the Accusump. There are plenty of people on the Autocrossing and Roadracing section that use the Accusump. I generally find the feedback there is better than most (if not all) of the other sections here.

The LS3 has oiling issues. Some would say all of the LS engines have oiling issues. IMHO it's no coincidence that the GS MN6 sports a dry sump oil system.

It's also been noted by a very prominent vendor that the Z06 dry sump oil system isn't truly a dry sump system. It's better than nothing but the Accusump and optimally the ARE are really what you might want to consider. If you do opt for the Z06 style dry sump get the new version or the LPE. Again, I'd hang out in the Autocrossing and Roadracing section for the best advice.

I chose the model based on capacity and location (under hood). I responded to your PM with some recommendations.

I'm assuming you either Autox or Road Race it on a road course, if you are concerned about weight..

I also race but Drag and I AM weight conscious, but I need a "DEEP CYCLE" battery because I run an electric water pump, and fan between rounds to cool the engine...

After a run my engine temp is app 210 (1/4 mile) and drive back to my pit spot.. Then I have between 10 min to 1 hr to cool it to the temp I like to run at (150 deg) when I leave the starting line... (oil, & trans fluid are warmer) so I run the water pump & fan app 15-20 min with the engine off to cool it down... then when I make a run its only running for total 5 min while I drive to the line, do a burn out and make a run....

Then back to the pits to cool it down again... if I have a good day and win I may go 7 rounds + 2 time trials total 9-10 runs.. so I need a battery that won't go dead on me..

I wound up getting an Optima Yellow Top.. & YES its HEAVY app 45 lb but I rather save weight some place else & be able to cool the engine & have it start... I would LOVE to have a battery like yours but doubt it would run the water pump & fan (with the engine off) for a total of 1.5 hr...

So far I've been lucky with this battery for "my" purpose's.. I have a 100 mile drive home so it gets re-charged pretty well, & I put it on a battery Tender at home....

I thought, once the car was running ALL the electronics were powered by the alternator. and only extra power from the alternator was used to recharge the battery.

Advise please

Iv'e had the Braille battery installed for two years (40,000 miles)without any problems. My ride is an 08 LS3 with the battery relocated to the passenger side cubby hole. FYI... My battery dimensions are 7" long...6" high...4" wide. I don't remember the weight...but..11.5 lbs seems to ring a bell.
