Should GM pay for my crank pulley replacement?

Should GM pay for my crank pulley replacement?
Okay, so I took my car in to get the crank pully falling off service bulliten taken care of and the dealer is saying that it is not likely to be a warranty item since its not part of the "drivetrain" Anybody had any experience with this? Am I being unreasonable to think that GM should pay for a known issue that has been identified for my car ( I am within the vin range)? I have an 05 with 39 K miles on it, and the 100K mile powertrain extended warranty. I am curious to here your thoughts. My oppinion - My tax dollars saved them from bankrupcy, now I have to pay for thier manufacturing F ups

Well, the engine is part of the drive-train and the pulley is part of the engine...contact the GM Customer Assistance and see if you can get anywhere with them.

Love the vote of confidence - but GM is not recognizing that this is an issue to this point (at least thats what the 18 year old kid on the other end of the line told me...) they have no records of the sevice bulliten for my car? Does anyone actually have the number? I pulled one off the corvett action centers webpage but GM says the number is no good???

Some 05 owners got their "harmonic balancer" (crank pulley) replaced under warranty even though they had no problem with it. Apparently some dealers decided they wanted the work and tricked GM to pay for it. But the TSB was intended for cars that exhibited loose crank pulley bolts as evidenced by throwing belts or throwing the pulley itself. It was never intended as a "recall." If you have those problems then I would expect your "extended powertrain warranty" to cover it but they will never do it if there isn't an exhibited problem.

thread resurrection. mine was replaced under warranty with 17000 miles under warrantee.
it just failed again and I lost all my belts, car was dead in the water, and GM will not cover it even though it was replaced already once before. 50/50 is all they will do which is not acceptable to me. I would rather have my mechanic do it right this time rather than have GM do another half assed job. mine is an 06 with 34000 miles. customer care just calls the dealer you speak to and is absolutely no help.

As mentioned, a TSB is not a recall and does not (unless otherwise stated in the TSB) provide any additional warranty coverage. A TSB is simply a way to advise dealer techs about a possible problem and how to diagnose/correct it.
Mewillis is out of his 3/36 warranty by about 3 years and 10,000 miles, and the replacement failed about 17,000 miles after being installed. A 50/50 offer sounds rather generous to me, even though it's still a PITA and a serious expense.
Someone posted that there is/was a shortage of balancers in the supply chain, supposedly GM was getting a newer (better) design to reduce the problem. We'll see...

A 3 year old thread rises from the ashes of the dead! 50/50 sounds more than fair to me.

"In honor of jpee"
So, if I understand this correctly, a TSB may (stress on 'may' since it's not mandatory for a dealer to correct at no cost to owner) only be covered under the bumper to bumper warranty which, for most C6s existed in the 3/36 time range. That's despite the fact it is part of the engine (powertrain) but not a demonstrated recall. "chriswood" either got lucky, or somehow, the GMPP includes it where the standard powertrain warranty does not.

It looks like mecomp1 and mewillis both have cars made before the 5/100 powertrain warranty came into effect, and their problems came after the 3/36 expired, so no coverage there.
I would certainly expect GMPP to cover it. But it sounds like perhaps mecomp1 wanted his work done as a precaution, not because his car actually was experiencing the problem. Perhaps he can give us more details.
A third-party extended warranty, who knows?
