Default Vararam Install Complete, Headers tomorrow...

Well the TB Spacer and Vararam Intake are on and I have to say that there is a pretty big SOTP increase when driving around below 50. I didn't get a chance to get on it due to the time of night and distance to the interstate. Can't wait to get it up to 70 or 80 tomorrow.

The removal of the shroud to replace it with the pre cut was a major PITA and would probably attempt to cut the stock shroud if I had to do it again. Every time I thought I had all the plastic pins out I'd find 2 more. Took me about 3 1/2 hours becuase I got hung up on the shroud for 2 1/2 hours.

UPS says the headers/midpipe will be here tomorrow and I might give them a try after work. Might get them done tomorrow night if im lucky. Any major PITA issues like the shroud or should be be pretty straight forward?

No offense but if it took you 3 and a half hours to install the Vararam, you might have a little trouble with the headers.... Just take your time and if you have any questions or issues...STOP.... take a step back and address the issue(s) on here or with someone who knows before moving forward. I did my LG's in my garage on my back by myself in about 5 hours.
Good Luck

It wasn't the install or removal of most of the components...just getting the stock shroud out, which I know alot of people have had trouble with. I took a break to come on here to see if I could search a trick to remove it without success. (Twist pull and bend was the best I could find) If I had cut the stock one I'd probably be closer to 2 or 2.5 taking extra time...

I think I can handle the headers. I had the car up to recon the job a couple days ago. I just wanted to know if I should expect some kinks in the road at any one point.

Default Header gaskets

Yes, many have reported that replacing the shroud is a major PAIN, and that cutting the stock shroud is way less of a hassle.

I remember the advice given when looking to install Kooks headers: Stick with the stock gaskets and NEVER use the gaskets supplied by Kooks. I'm not sure if that is the same case with other brands, but I'd check just to play things safe.

Good luck with the install!

I was in the same boat!!! Everything was going great, very straight forward install until I had to remove the shroud. NOTE: If you are doing a Vararam install cut the shroud your self, do not remove it. What a PAIN!! I'm now deciding whether I want to do the header/ tunnel plate install myself , I can't imagine it would be any worse than that damn shroud.

Cutting the shroud while still on the vette is the best way. There's a technique that really makes it alot easier than you'd think.
