Default Reading oil level on dipstick?

Anyone else have a hard time getting a nice clear level on the dipstick? I know to wait untill the oil has settled, but the level is impossible to see. The oil is all over the place.

Never had that issue. Perhaps give it a bit more time?

I have never had that issue.

Did you wipe the stick off before reading?

I never get a true oil level reading unless I let the car sit over night.

You also need to wait until the oil is at least 175 degrees, to get an accurate reading.

I have the same issue as the OP. For whatever reason the oil level can not be read on the one side of the dipstick. The oil (as the OP has stated) is all over the place.

I always check after overnight sitting. You don't even have to wipe your dipstick, it will be very evident where the oil level is.

Yes I wiped off the dipstick and I can leave it sit for a month, it is still not readable. Being 57 years old I've read a few dipsticks. This one is just smeared all over with oil as though it gets dragged through oil as it's being pulled out. I thought others may have the same issue (like Mr DrezzUp) and had a cure

I think I get a good reading on one side and one that is crap on the other side, i.e. smeared 2 inches up the stick.

One member said to wipe the dipstick before reading. Is that really the way he meant to say that?(laff). Maybe he owns a mustang!

Use the three little holes in the hatched area. There'll be a film of oil across the holes that were submerged, no film of oil across the holes that weren't submerged.

I know this is going to sound stupid, but... flip the stick over and then feed it back down, it may not want to go because it's used to going in the other way{metal memory} but work with it , see what happens?

Not stupid at all! I already tried it. Very difficult to get it to go, but it does. Still unreadable.

According to the manual the oil level should be checked when the oil is warm not after it sat overnight.

You've got to be able to check it at a gas station when you're driving all day long.

Have you ever been able to read the level on this vehicle? If so, what has changed? Did you have an oil change done and engine is over full? Has anyone else tried reading level? Do you drink exccessivly before checking?<that is humor.........Or maybe the planets are not in correct alignement? If so wait a week......
