Default High tranny temps,,

Diving on the Los Angeles freeways this afternoon with outside temps around 101 and stop and go traffic,,,My Vettes tranny temps got "over" 240 degrees!!
I have an A6 w/ 2800 stall,so I hope an aux. tranny cooler will help.{even though My Z51 has a factory cooler}
Any other opinions?
Thanks,George

As far as I know, all A6s (Z51 or otherwise) have the same (small) factory transmission cooler.
But yes, the addition of an aftermarket auxiliary cooler should help a lot.

You need a tranny cooler dude before you fry that thing. The factory one is too small. I use a BandM after market one and I rarely see 200.

Those temps seem really high. Does the higher stall really make that huge of a difference? With the stock A6 I see 214 with 105 outside in city, stoplight to stoplight driving.

i have a 3800 rpm converter, the temps in 95 degree weather stop and go traffic flashing the converter never over 200, then the dealers screwed the trans put new trans in and it ran hot very hot in the 240+ range in 10 miles, found out not enough flow, lines clogged, but i added a cooler and it still ran hot, after they switched lines it dropped too 200, i still think that's to hot since it ran that before with the other trans without a cooler

DO NOT BUY THIS COOLER!!! Get a cooler with NPT fittings. The hoses slide right off the fittings on the cooler above, I speak from experience.

I have used several different type / brand coolers... with stall up to 3800 & I found Stacked Plate to be 10x better than the finned aluminum type.. when i was using a Vigilante 3800 converter in my 96 C4 I was in stop & go driving in 90+ deg weather and my trans never went over 210 BUT with the finned aluminum I would always go over 230 with only a 2800 converter!!

I Swear By "Stacked Plate" type coolers!!
