Alright, here is the finished product, and some driving impressions. I have had more comments (all positive) and other people almost driving off the road when they see the car. Can honestly say it has attracted more attention then any other mod I've done. Second, coolant temps are down and stay at 199 degrees, which is why I considered the modification in the first place. I was running closer to 205 or 210 before. Third the sound of the blower is worth all of it to me!!!

I just came from looking at a Callaway 606 at my dealer. They mount a Maggie, but do not use an aftermarket hood. The have developed an extension that glues to the top of the hood, after a sizable opening is cut into the hood. Take a look at their website and see if their "hood" will meet yout needs. Perhaps they sell you the part? It looks as if it would vent well.

Yeah but those pics have piles of snow around so the ambient cant be too high..would like to see if in 100 degree heat it allows the temps to be lower.

this was my solution i got this hood for $740 new from forum vendor....pics are before Its was adjusted. its good now.

I think "vetfever" may be on to something here.

Drivinfast, love your high rise carbon fiber hood!!! Really looks good. That was my original intent, figured if my stock hood didn't work after I opened it up, I would be in the market for a vented hood.

Hey I appreciate the feedback. Must say, the car looks really good in person. The precision of the cut and the way the vent is trimmed out turned out very professional. If anyone wants some details on how to do it, send me a PM.

And just a note for the guys on the LS2 forum, and everyone else that slammed this idea: 1. Chevrolet cuts the same hole in the hood of a ZR1 and everyone says (wow, that is really cool). 2. Check my out car out in person, and then make your opinion. If you don't like it, no problem I can live with that. 3. If you add big cam, headers, S/C you will have lots of under of the hood heat and you will also be looking for ways to get rid of it. Your options will be big radiator and fans ($1,000 plus), vented hood ($1,500 plus), or my option ($10 for the trim around the cutout)

Well, I've never had an overheating issue on either of my C6's (LS3, Z06) out here in Phoenix. The problem just doesn't exist, so there is nothing to fix. FYI, they did much of the hot weather testing on the C6 out here.

I had my doubts but after seeing it I think congrats are in order!
That looks nicer than I thought it would! I still think some sort of clear lexan molded in would be in order to keep rain/snow or critters out of the engine bay.

Actually DrivenFast and i were talking about this same idea for like a track hood. I really really want the world challenge hood, but i might do this for my track hood. Way to follow the DREAM!!! People (gf) call me crazy all the time. Then when the project is done they are like WOW! People just don't have an imagination. Plus stock hoods are easy to find aka they don't sell for much.

The only thing I would change is the front plate. The plate and holder definitely detract from the lines of the car.

I have a stock C6 hood laying around that is pretty much worthless. I've tried to sell it. If I crate it up and ship it, I might be able to get the shipping costs back. I may go to hackin' and see what I can come up with. Some purist may not like it....but I may not like the purist that doesn't like it. So....does that somehow equal things out in the intergalactic grand scheme of things?
