Default Too late- I did it!

OK, call me crazy, but here it is. Actually the cut out went easier than expected. I have to tell you, it looks pretty good. I am planning to buy a World Challange hood, so I really didn't have anything to lose. I am going to give it some street time and see how it goes. Thanks for of all the feedback, I knew there would be some aggressive comments about this idea!

Just because the idea doesnt appeal to you doesnt mean it's wrong. If the man wants to cut up his hood, so be it. It's not a rare and precious DaVinci that can't be replaced. It's a slab of fiberglass off a mass-produced car that's no more valuable or special than every other Tahoe or Excursion out there with the same MSRP.
Then you don't understand. But to each his own and what's right for one isn't the same to another. It is truly custom though and he did do a good job on the cut. I do like the color.

You could have sold the stock hood to offset another hood but now you're just SOL. It's your car so have fun with it.

There is only one person who has to like it and he does. So it doesn't matter.

You did pretty good job, looks clean. It's not something I would ever do. It will cost you when you get tired of having a big square hole in your hood. I supose you could make a nice hood scoop out of wood or something, Ram-Air

It can actually grow on you. The only difference with your hood and ZR1 is the clear cover.

You're joking right? You don't think the aerodynamics of the car and the airflow through the front are not different now (in a bad way).

As long as you've gone this far, why not have some fun with it and put on the Harwood Areo Mini II scoop. It'd vent underhood heat when standing still and force it down and out when moving. The appearance would be mildly outrageous.

I am all for DIY. Anybody can do it "right" since doing so only means completing it correctly the first time. All you gotta have is the *****, the tools, and an understanding how to use them (the tools, that is. )

I was going to suggest picking up a 2nd hand hood from a wrecked Vette to go crazy on...but you've already done the deed.

Since you're a DIY kinda guy, you want louvers anyway, and you've already cut up your hood...you can make louvers in plexi/lexan with a small torch and a 2-3" metal putty knife....plus a lot of patience and measuring.

You might have a future in this forum for selling these chopped hoods.

Based on some of the other tasteful mods I have seen in here, I'd bet that here are plenty of people in here who would buy one off you, especially those among us from some of the import forums.

My ProCharged C6 makes about the same power. I installed a Ron Davis radiator, Meziere electric water pump, 160 t'stat, and a big oil cooler. I have zero issues with cooling. Anytime the outside air temp is below 60, I have problems getting the oil temp above 180 and coolant above 170. Summer time (outside above 95) my oil temp rarely exceeds 210, and coolant above 200.

You might try proping up the rear of your hood (beer can cut in half works fine) and see if this will help vent heat out the rear. I doubt if you will see any difference. Controling heat is a function of controling the coolant and oil fluids. If the engine was air cooled, venting would surely help, but, .............

Good luck.

That's what I get for not reading all the posts. Too late for my beer car mod, I guess.

Too bad.

Slap some Saran Wrap in that hole.

I just discovered that you are in Minnetrista Minnesota. You should be having issues building heat in the engine this time of year.

How do you plan to stop snow and ice from coming in through the hole?

As long as the engine is hot from him driving it, he won't have to worry about snow and ice.

Only if he parks it outside and leaves it will that be an issue.
