Default Is the 2010 Grand Sport Manual Diff the same as a z06 diff?

Is the 2010 Grand Sport differential (manual trans car) the same as the 2010 z06 differential? I've seen conflicting info about this. I know GM has different part #'s but I've been told they are still in fact the same.

Thanks for the input, There is a lot of conflicting info. Including the dealers having different part #s for them, and the GS diffs having a "z51" tag on them.

JMHO!!! I would think the rear is the same. Maybe the guts & hardened shafts would be exclusive to the Z............Right or No.

The GS does NOT share the same rear diff as the Z06 (and that's why you have found two different part numbers).

It's no different than the base car Z51, though it uses the Z06's diff cooler, IIRC.

True. The Z06 has a larger ring gear and beefed up housing.

How about the 6spd. Are the gear ratios the same as the z51 or the standard?

Z51. Same exact tranny as the 08-09 Z51, and same exact gear ratios since the 05 Z51 (and maybe earlier for certain C5 cars).

This just gets more confusing...lol

Is it the same diff case (manual trans) as the z06 with different internals? Strictly talking about the dry sump, manual trans Grand Sports. Not any other version.

I would also like to know this.....I hope it is the same, but when ever I speed shift the diff sounds like its having a hard time, so i doubt it is.

Interesting on the internal stuff... that I did not know. Probably the reason for the part# change like mentioned above. The GrandSport is a Z51 car immediately with one of the springs being GS specific (front or rear, can't remember) the other being Z51.

Got a stock Z rear at work but my GS is in storage for winter, otherwise I would compare.

They did change the cooler configuration in 2010 and late build 2009 as I figured out on a 4:10 swap.

I don't know if this info will help but when my stock '08 coupe rear diff cratered, I changed to a Z06 differential. We had to change the output shaft on the M6 tranny to get it to match up to the Z06 diff. Z06 M6 has a larger output shaft.

The Z06 has a different, beefier case. All GS's use the same rear diff.

Are you 100% sure about the case? I believe its the same. Im not sure about the internals, but the case is the same part# for manual trans diffs. The internal part #'s were different though. This was the case with 2 dealerships I called.

Not 100% sure, maybe 99%.. GM never said a word when they were hyping the car, though they did go into great detail on everything else.

Grand Sport's with a manual transmission uses the same differential case as the Z06. I personally have a 2011 GS that I bought new and pulled the entire drivetrain out of to install a built set-up (long story) I was under the impression that they were the exact same as a Z06 diff. When I pulled the drivetrain I noticed the tag read Z51 3.42 instead of Z 3.42 like all of the many Z06 diffs I have. I called the dealer to check and he told me a 2011 Z06 and 2011 GS (stick only) car has the same part # differential replacement. I do know that GS's with the A6 transmission does have the smaller differential as all base cars do.

That makes sense. Glad to see this question answered correctly.

I'm under the impression that everyone on here knows everything whether they do or not so instead of relying on the info on here I am going to the dealer and checking myself. Getting really sick of everyones own opinion. Looking for facts!
