Don't turn Active Handling off
Here's what Ranger says about his launch technique:
The Essence of Launch
Here's the approach I've developed through 700+ drag strip passes.
Before doing launches at the track, you need to turn off Traction Control. You want the setting that allows wheel spin but retains Active Handling/Stability Control.
In a C5 Corvette you want to be in Competitive Driving mode.
In a C6 Corvette you want to be in Traction System Off mode

I was there that day/track rental at MIR raceway in Maryland 11/6/06 when Ranger first got into the 10's with his 427 Z06. I am a long time bracket racer and I can tell you that the traction was the "best" I have ever seen and the weather was stellar.
The traction was so good that if I had the GS then I "feel" that a 1.7 something 60 FT. with the traction control off would of been a piece of cake.
PS: I was not a Corvette guy at the time; so to me it was "Ranger Who"? and none of those candy a$$'s can cut a light.

FYI...Harlan Charles told me something about the GS at SEMA
Harlan Charles, the Corvette engineer, told me at SEMA that he's always surprised when people question how the GS has a faster 1/4 mile time than the stock car even though it's the same engine....it's simple
Traction! The 325 tires on the GS allow better traction than the stock 285's.
Made sense to me.
I had the true pleasure of speaking to Harlan and several of the other of the Wixom engine builders at SEMA. They confirmed, they watch the forum, and it was very obvious that they are TRULY car guys and are gratified when they see us using our cars as designed on the track and our enthusiasm for our beloved toys!

So your leaving traction control and active handling on, correct? When I first got my GS i didn't know about the active handling. Let me tell you I thought this car was slooooowww...I would do 1st-4th pulls and it felt like like the car was holding back. Well I learned of the active handling and turned it off.....The car is MUCH MUCH faster now....I don't if you keep it on for you 60 time or not but, the car is faster with it off.

Hold down the TC button until your display tells you that TC and AH are turned off.
I am not aware of why active handling would cause a car to be slower in straight-line acceleration though.

If you've ever tracked your car on the road course, you would know how powerful and effective it is. It's sort of like the "hand of God" comes and corrects you if you get out of shape. Of course it has limits but it really reacts amazingly quickly and effectively.

Ok, Bringing back an old thread. I will be taking my GS to the track this weekend and need some advice. Never used launch control before, so i'll be attempting it for the first time.
Been on a drag strip once in my life last year, and only managed to run mid 13's with this car. Its a stock 6MT GS with a halltech intake and NPP exhaust.
I was thinking of using the launch control, but does competition mode keep keep only some nannies on and some off?
Also, when shifting, what RPM do you guys shift at? DO you go into 4th gear at the end of the 1/4 mile or wring out 3rd till redline?
