C6 stick shift Q. & answer about icon 1-4
On my dashboard I have a light that comes on especially when I first start my car the light looks like (1-4) I looked in my manual basically it stated I can shift from first gear to fourth. I wanted to know can I do this anytime that I wanted so stopped by local dealer spoke with what they claimed to be the corvette specialist he looked it up online on his chey-computer. Basically it stated that only when the light comes on (1-4) is when I could shift this way. I noticed that the only time the light comes on is when it's a cold start. So now I am under the impression, that is the only time when I can. If anyone has any suggestions on can I use the shift from 1-4 when I want w/ out doing any damage to my transmission. Also I would like to know can I use the 2-4-6 shift at any time or NEVER on 2-4-6 shift. And (1-4) is that just like the manual + corvette
tech stated. I am assuming that this is more of a keeping the rpm's down until it warms up not so I can get great gas mpg. Thank you in advance for what I feel like is a kinda dumb azz Q. Sincerely

That's the 'skip shift' light.
GM has a solenoid on the trans so that under certain conditions you will be "forced" to shift from 1st to 4th as a fuel saving mode. GM uses this feature to get it's EPA rating and saves you the gas guzzler fee when buying new.
Most people have this feature turned off with a tune or a kit that goes in line. Do a google search for skip shift, most venders here have the kit if you don't want a tune.
You can shift into any gear at any time. I freguently shift from third to fifth.

BUT if you install the inline CAGS eliminator the dash 1-4 will still show when the ECU is activating the skip ship solenoid (which the in line module keeps from occurring thus 'fooling' the ECU). Only a 'tune' will eliminate the skip feature AND dash indicator.
