Please forgive my ignorance, I did a quick search and didnt see anything. What is this for and why doesnt my new MGW need it (its circled)?
Also, while you at it, and suggestions not in the instructions (they are dated)? For example, should the handle bottom out when you screw it down? Or can you increase the height a bit to increase the throw?

Thanks VERY Much!
I don't know what it's for. I know you don't need it. Just install the MGW.
The "handle" (shift ****?) can bottom out when you "screw it down" (C5 style) or not. That's why it has a set screw.
The "L" shaped pin is there to lock the shifter box in neutral during installation.
Inserted the pin into the front part of the shifter box. There is a hole in the black plastic and another hole in the shifter shaft in the shifter box. This will lock the shifter box in neutral so when you install it with the transmission in neutral, everything is centered.
Make sure the transmission is in neutral then connect the transmission shifter rod to the shifter box. Then loosely install the shifter box on the torque tube.
Once its is aligned, you bolt down the shifter box to the torque tube and bolt down the shifter.
This applies to the stock set up. I don't know what the MGW instructions are.
Does the "L" shaped pin go like this with an MGW? Their instructions dont speak to the alignment pin.
Thanks all. Sorry if these are stupid questions. My first shifter install since my highschool 1969 GTO.
NO. You're worrying about something that doesn't apply to the MGW install. If it isn't addressed in the installation instructions it doesn't apply. Cool?

The "L" shaped pin is there to lock the shifter box in neutral during installation. However, follow the MGW instructions.
Step 1.
Make sure the transmission is in neutral and inserted the pin into the front part of the shifter box. There is a hole in the black plastic and another hole in the shifter shaft in the middle of the shifter box. Make sure the pin drops down all the way into the shaft hole. If you can't insert the pin, loosen the two large torx bolts attaching the shifter box the torque tube. You will now be able to move the shifter box front to back. Once the pin is inserted, the shifter box is now locked in neutral along with the transmission itself.
Step 2.
Remove old shifter. Since the shifter box and transmission are in neutral, bolt the new shifter down and everything will be aligned properly. Torque all bolts down using thread lock compound (Locktite)
Step 3.
Remove pin.
This applies to the stock and B&M shifters. I don't know what the MGW instructions are but would think they would be the same because all you are doing is replacing the shifter itself.
ONE MORE SUGGESTION
I strongly recommend removing the shifter box from the torque tube and check the rubber bushings for damage. If the rubber bushings are torn, replacement is necessary. Contact me for where replacement bushings can be purchased.
Vette Phase, From the pictures on MGWs web site they show the model you have pictured, for the C5,C6 Corvette. Not sure what to make of it? I also wanted to purchase this shifter for myself, can anyone else help with this question?
2005dso, Did you get your shifter directly from MGW or a second hand source? New shifters come with installation DVD.
I got it last week directly from MGW. I waited about 5 weeks (ordered just after Christmas) and I think the wait was because of a new run and a new design. I called at least two times and they mentioned weather issues and a new manufacturing run.
I had two problems in installing it:
1 - I had no idea what I was doing. Though I have had the bezel off already when I spliced a aux port into my radio XM channel. The bezel is half the work.
2 - The DVD instructions were for the older design, though its very close. The instructions do not mention the alignment pin at all.
Thanks MEZ for the extra instructions. The stock shifter was in neutral and the pin aligned when I removed it. The MGW went in very easily and seems to shift very nicely. Unfortunately, its already back together and I didn't look at the bushings. The MGW came with a tube of synthetic grease and I put it on the linkage. I would guess this could help hard shifting then the car is cold.
I'm thinking I'm gonna like this thing! Now if only the damn snow will melt.

Here is the shifter box and a ball point pen inserted into the alignment hole to illustrate where the "L" shaped pin should go when you go thru the alignment procedure.
The shifter alignment pin show earlier on the shifter is not in the alignment hole on the shifter box. Its just "parked" in that slot on the shifter should it be needed in the future to align the shifter box.
The bushing on the left below is a torn bushing from a car with 14,000 miles. The one on the right is a new replacement one.
I just got my MGW about 3 weeks ago. It doesn't look like this one. Have they come out with an upgrade recently?
Mine looks like the one on the left:
My MGW looks like the one on the right also - I'm not sure what's going on with the shifter on the left. Where's MGWGeorge? We need him to chime in here, unless somebody else has an answer
interested too, did someone try calling mgw. george is usually around
He called me early this morning to make sure I was all set (he read this thread). I dont want to speak for him, but I think he said the new design was to give more height adjustment.
And he set me straight on the alignment pin. I couldnt exactly make out what MEZ was trying to say (its meant to slide up and down, see pic). The alignment pin is used while assembling the car and is not need after. I'm not sure why they even leave it in there, it could work its way loose and fall down and lock you into nuetral.

I sent George an e-mail and he said the same thing (see below). It is for height adjustment only, everything else is the same.
we have had some guys over the last year or so asking if we could make the
shifter height adjustable because some guys want a taller **** to lessen
the shifter effort. so this new bracket just allows height adjustments.
nothing else has been changed
Anyone have a copy of video for me I bought mine 2nd hand with no CD.. Also, quick question: offset toward driver on shift arm mount correct? Picture of installed from above would be great.. Pm please if you can help..
