I had the same happen to my 05 at ~17,400 miles. That was about 3 weeks ago and it was a $1500 repair. But my car just began the same squeaking again and they say it is coming from the alternator this time.

I just had mine replaced for the 4th time. now, 2 weeks later, it's wobbling and chirping AGAIN. FML The dealership has a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty... I'm going up there tomorrow to raise hell. if they don't fix it for free. I am going to stand on the sidewalk with a sign that says, "Defective parts sold here".

Harmonic Balancer wobble
I have a 2013 GS Convt.....with only 2,800 miles. For the past week or so I have had this very annoying chirping noise from under the hood. As I pass by, people turn around, not too look at my beautiful yellow car...but to see where this weird noise is coming from.
I took it to my Chevy dealer and they replaced the serpentine belt...and said it should be fine now. It was fine for a little while, then the same noise came back. I took the car back to the dealer and now they replaced the pulley and put on a new belt....and sent me home... while I was still at the dealer, I can STILL hear the chirping and so could everyone else standing there. The mechanic said I have to drive the car for about 100 miles to let it all work in. I know I'm a woman, but even I knew that sounded a little questionable....but, I gave it a chance and took the car home. I drove it for about 30 miles and WOW, the noise disappeared....I was ecstatic and took back all the bad things I said about the mechanics at Chevy.....WELL GUESS WHAT....after putting on 100 miles the damn noise is BACK! I have a friend who is a BMW mechanic and had him look at the car. He noticed right away that there was some wobble in the balancer, which he said, should NOT be there. I called the dealer back and they told me that in BMW's and Mercedes, there is no wobble, but there is some on the corvette balancer and this is NOT the problem with my car. OK, but now I'm reading all the posts and this has been happening on the corvette even as far back as the C2.....I am going back to the dealer on Mon. with all the posts and I want to know what they will tell me now! If anyone has any new info on the subject, please let me know

Just demand that they replace the balancer. Dont ask them what they think since they have been wrong...twice. I took mine in and said "replace the balancer" and they did.

It was stupid of them to think a belt would be bad after only 2800 miles but thats what most dealers do to try to get out of warranty work. This balancer wobble has been a problem for a loooong time and every chevy dealer should know about it by now.

First off I'm so grateful for finding CF!!! I purchased my 06 C6 one month ago and started hearing the chirping noise about 2 weeks ago. Like Kazvet2013 said its embarrassing when people notice the noise instead of the car. I don't want to take it to the dealership but this is my first vette and I don't know any reputable shop in Houston,Tx. Can anyone refer a good shop that has fixed this issue?

HDDP,
Thanks for the kind words. I leaned about the crank pulley problem first hand because I had one of the first failures on my 05 after 19,000 miles. It took the dealer 6 weeks of trial and error before they replaced the pulley and fixed the problem. What I learned was that there is no acceptable tolerance for pulley wobble. I suspect that because the engine has to be running with the tension of the two belts on the pulley for it to wobble that there is no way to actually measure the wobble. A lot of pulleys wobble and will not be replaced simply because they are not running true. It's only when they cause the belt to chirp that the dealer will replace the pulley because that is the only way to eliminate the chirp.

had the same problem with my 07 with ~27,000 on the clock and out of warranty. They spoke with the regional GM rep and they replaced it for the extended warranty deductible ~$500.
if it goes again in within a year it's under warranty but if it's after tht I will spend the $$$ and out on an ATI.
