Hello, In my opinion what sets the MGW shifter apart from ANY other shifter brand is the their billet lower box assembly. I don't have any experience with the Hinson shifter but with just MGW total package is a hands down winner.

I had the MGW shifter that came out just before the one they have now that comes with the lower box. I have a ZO6 so my lower box is solid mounted, no rubber grommets. I took it out and installed the newest version with their box that does come with rubber grommets. They're both very good shifters I'm not trading for anything else anytime soon but I couldn't really tell any difference from one to the other. If anything, the latest version may be a bit less notchy but I like notchy. Left one is the older model right one is the newer with the box.
Good luck

Next, lets talk down line in a few years of good use, and it's time to re-adjust the shifter if needed at it pivot points and re-bushing the lower box as well.
With the Hinson shifter, do not see any adjustment points in the shifter like the MGW with nylon bearing points, so will need to replace parts/whole new shifter instead. Also, you are back to what to do to the lower box to correct the worn bushings, and may as well tack on another new OEM lower box as well.
Bluntly put, go with the MGW and don't look back.

I've got the MGW in my Z06 for over a year now, I've tried almost all the aftermarket shifters and I can say the MGW is the best bang for the buck. You won't be disappointed if you go MGW

I have the Hinson STS installed, and have let people who have the MGW mess with it. Their feedback seems unanimous in that everyone says "Wow! The throws are much shorter! However, it is much 'notchier / clickey' in comparison, and takes more effort than the MGW."
I plan on adding in the "Anti-Venom" washer(s) soon to hopefully fix some of the notchiness. The only complaint I have is that my shift **** rattles at 3k rpm + under full throttle. I am in touch with Hinson, and they have admitted that this is not normal. They have advised that if it does not correct itself within the next few hundred miles that they will take some form of action.
Hope this helps.

I decided on MGW as I have heard some amazing reviews ,that and I have had a previous issue with hinsons. I have recently inquired about the new shifter as well with one of their sales guy not giving me the time of day . MGW it is !

I would stay stock IMO. I have a MGW. Would not get another. If you buy one, just wait 6-12 months and they will have a "newer and better" one that makes your obsolete, can't get parts for and can't upgrade. That is just crap service so I won't support them anymore.

Up in Meanjoe post, I still have the one on the left in my Vet, and have no urged to update it to the latest style.
The reason for this, is I like the placement of the shifter **** on that design since I'm taller and have a longer reach, while the newer design pulls the shifter **** back and to the left more instead.
Plus add into the fact that I have a lathe to spin new bushings to rebuild the stock lower box, so over kill from me to buy MGW lower box as well.
So to break it down, the updates all started with the lower ball itself at the bottom of the shifter shaft.
Then the lasted update as show in Meangreen post was to allow the shifter **** on top of the shaft to be more to the left and back position instead, and which that shifter kit included the lower shifter box as well.

Man your a tough customer, I believe MGW has a trade in program on a purchase of a new shifter. To me this is fair plus if you sell your old MGW private party they usually sell within the hour. Many companies develop new products that make their old products obsolete that in my opinion is evolution of business.

Their trade in program was a joke, and no one wants the old ones when new ones are "sooo much improved". Plus, they are overhyped anyways IMO.

With the rest, such is not the case, and you end up having to buy a whole new shifter and OEM lower box instead.

I don't feel they are overhyped MGW makes the best shifter period. I've owned B&M, Breathless, C6Z and older MGW version shifters on both C5 Z06 and C6's and MGW's newest version with the billet lower box is the ticket. I do feel that the price is high but the quality is there and people pay for it, an MGW shifter is the best single mod right next to tires one could do for a C5 and C6 Corvette.
