Default C6 Radio Problem

I saw an old message about this probelm but did not see a "final answer."

My radio started powering up only intermiitently. Sometimes I start the car, turn on the radio and nothing happens. If I stop the car and start it again, often the radio will work.
From what I read it appears to be a software problem and my Chevy dealer says the only fix is to replace the radio.
Is this true?
I haven't got the estimate to do that yet.
Are there better replacement radios other than GM that would be less expensive?
Is the radio easy to pull out? Pull the ***** - pry off the cover plate/bezel - take out a few screws and remove? I couldn't find a "how-to" thread.

Happened to me on one of my earlier C6s. Local dealer tried a software fix, but when it continued to happen, they had to replace the radio. Fortunately, mine was still under warranty, so it didn't cost me anything.

You didn't say what you have so this may or may not relate to your car:

Here's what you have to do to do a radio swap, part 1 and part 2:

Rick,
Thanks for the radio removal links.

I don't have Nav, so I assume that the dealer solution of replacing the radio is this only fix.

Probably.

Might want to take the time to look for a used one. Lots of guys are taking out their factory units, Nav and non-Nav, and replacing them with aftermarket. Would certainly be a lot cheaper than buying new. Good luck.
