Good job troubleshooting and fixing the problem yourself. Now you can once again sleep at night.
Just went through the same thing tracing out the wiring on my methanol injection system that suddenly went dead. Ended up being a broken wire tied into the fuel pump circuit. Could have lost a piston from that one.

These types of threads are so important, and Google picks them up.

A very similar thread got me out of a jam when jumper cables were hooked up backwards on my mom's PT Cruiser....in that case there's a main fuse that blows and once replaced it's good to go.

Chevydriver123 Thanks for posting!

I also just had a Tech cross the battery cables on my 1979 L82 Corvette. I plan on trying a new battery first. Pre ECM and all stock except for a Clifford alarm. Any tips would be appreciated. Losing sleep in Chicago.

Wow a frustrating and expensive momentary lapse in attention. Sorry it happened.

Like others have said great that you followed up to a conclusion, so many people do not and we are left wondering what happened.

Hope it is all sorted for you now.

If the Diodes worked properly they should save components. Granted some traces could be burnt.

This thread was very helpful when I recently touched my battery leads backwards on my 2008 Z06. Here I am at 53 years old doing something so careless as connect a battery backwards. After unbolting my passenger side header I didn't see any issue with the connections; alternator looked ok; all fuses checked out. I had to recharge my battery overnight, and then amazingly it started and ran just fine. Only issue was no sound from the radio. Because of this thread, I pulled the Bose amp out and found the damaged wire (more like foil really). A simple solder repair got it fixed. Just have to remove 4 bolts holding the amp in; 2 harness connections; and 8 torx bolts holding the amp together.

Thanks again to the members of CF for the help. Here are a couple pictures for my contribution.

Excellent work!! Probably saved you a thousand or so dollars by troubleshooting/ repairing it your self.

Default Same Problem

I bought a new battery for my C6 and let them install it, a free service, what could go wrong, right? The employee hooked it up backwards, momentarily. It sparked, I didn’t try to turn ignition on till corrected. It started, but no HVAC fan and no stereo/Nav, it’s being repaired at their expense. After reading this I’m not terribly worried about a lifetime of electrical gremlins in my future that the parts store would probably not be eager to accept responsibility for. They owned up to their mistake without hesitation thus far, keeping my fingers crossed.

Would this be covered by your home owners insurance? Something like cutting down a tree and it falls on your car.

No, they changed the battery in the parking lot of the auto parts store. Normally I would take the battery home and swap it out myself, then take the old (core) back to the parts store. But I was the only customer in the store so they offered to change it for me without any waiting, and save me a return trip w/the core.
