I had an aftermarket cam put in about 4 years ago with aftermarket springs. The problem is, I do not remember the specs on the cam. Recently, an issue happened at the place where I get my oil changed and after they did the oil change and started the car, they bent a valve. I'm going to speak with the owner tomorrow as he was not in today, but from my point of view they need to fix the problem as there was NO issue with my car before I took it to them. If it is indeed a bent valve, would they just need to replace the valve that is bent with a stock valve or would I have had different valves since I had a aftermarket cam put in? I'm pretty livid about this whole situation as it seems they are trying to basically say it isn't their fault. Just trying to get some facts together. fml!

I cant see how an oil change would bend valves if that is all they did. If the heads were not touched when you did the cam you would still have stock valves in it.

I have no idea what happened. Starting the car before they put oil in it maybe? All I know is, when they started the car for the first time it was making the clunking/ticking noise and they said it was a bent valve. They are looking at it closer tonight and I'm going up there to talk to the owner tomorrow.

Starting it without oil would not bend a valve. It could do other damage but usually not in a short period of time. Now did a person at that shop rev the snot out of it or take it for a drive? Its also possable that something broke and they had nothing to do with such. I've had that happen in the shops I ran. Its rear but it does happen. Now a valve spring could have broke. Either way until its a mystery until its figured out exactly what failed.

Could have been rved hard and broke a valve spring or had a rocker chome off.

They abused your car. DB grease monkeys trashing someone elses ride is a common happening.

To answer your question: you just have to pull the head and replace the valve (if there's no collateral damage which is possible). Any good head/machine shop **cough** WCCH**cough** can duplicate the same valve specs you already have in place. You may want to consider rebuilding the heads. Cost is about $600 with new springs and no porting which will save you $$ not needing to retune for more flow.

One more thing; always write yor milleage down so you can verify if your car was driven.

Don't need to drive it to rev the snot out of it. Of course this may not have happened. any clue to what is wrong with?
