Doors don't open & Windows malfunction - continuation
So the story continues.
Car is now at local Chevy Dealer (ugh). Basically, when I put my window all the way up they seem to hunt, up and down ~ 1/4 inch. Soon after that began the passenger door frequently refused to open. Sometimes it requires the FOB, othertimes not. As of two days ago the driver door starting to refuse to open. Hit the pad, window drops, and then nothing.
But then just like that......... things work!
So the dealer that I bought car from now has my supercharged vette. Service manager did indeed experience the non-opening doors but I can't help feeling like they'll announce "we couldn't find anything wrong".
I was told by forum members that it sounded like the door touch pad. But if it was, would that make the windows malfunction too?
Car is convertible.....but doubtful that has anything to do with this issue.
Any advice when I speak with the service guys? Any specific questions I should ask them if they can't find anything?
Mine did the same thing. It was a faulty door switch or latch combined with the window needing to be adjusted. The window comes down just a bit when you open and close it to make a better seal on the top. When the switch is bad, the window cant tell when the door is open.
They fixed that and the conv. top motor, but it is in the shop for the 3rd time for them to fix the passenger side a/c always blowing out hot air. First they did a reprogram that I told them wouldn't work, then a new control unit, and now who knows what? I could have guessed and thrown parts at it. I am very disappointed in the techs. Good luck, but I bet it is a door switch.

Sevice manager called back and confirmed it is indeed a door switch. Both sides to be replaced and car ready tomorrow. I will say that I am satisfied with the service so far

So it was the buttons on the inside of the doors that went bad?
No...those are the door pads. Service manager said it's controllers inside each door. Apparently, they tell the computers whether or not the door is open or closed! Because the car no longer knows, the windows do their dance & the doors become inoperable....which is NOT a good thing in an emergency I'd say (can anyone say personal injury lawyer?)
No telling how long to fix and, naturally, my car is just out of warranty. Personally speaking, I'd rather roll up windows and a key entry then to forever wonder what in a car will break down next.....

The switches on the door don't cause the symptoms you had. The door module does. It takes inputs from the outside switch, the inside switch and the windows and controls the door and window. When this happened on my 08 two years ago it took my dealer one day to get the part in. The other thing that will keep you from getting into or out of the car is the latch mechanism in the B Pillar. That went bad on my car as well.
If you can't get into the car using the outside door pad but can get out using the inside door button there is a problem with the pad and Vice Versa for the inside door button. If neither the pad or the button works then it is the door module or the latch. If neither the pad or button works and the window is going crazy it is the door module.
What if the door is just slow(3sec) to open when I hit the pad? Can the pad be cleaned somehow? I see other guys get right in when they press the pad and mine has always been slow. The button on the inside is fine. It confuses the hell out of passengers who don't know how to get into a Vette.

Yes, the outside door pad came come off and be cleaned. Once removed, there are 5 screws that hold the touch pad to the sensor, remove the screws and clean both sides of the contacts. Don't drop the connector in the door or you'll probably have to take off the door panel to fish it out, unless you get lucky.
