Want to buy gm tech ii scan tool where to?

There seems to be several international sellers that have these units complete for less than $500 including shipping. I can not find anything that seems to imply these are counterfeit!

Well since they are not manufactured anywhere but China now, It is safe to assume they are copies. Notice the shipping location on the ad. That doesn't mean they won't work however.

I have bought, used then sold 4 of the Chineeze units and never had a problem with them. Like the post above I started out with the notion that if it didn't work or stopped working then not too big a deal. Sure beat paying an average of 4500 new or 3500 used when you can find them.
I sold my last one to my Corvette Mechanic. He's used it for about 4 years now.

TRUST this mans information! I purchased one from an UNNOWLEDGEABLE FRIEND for $1000
It was NOT properly updated, and would NOT work with All C5's
If your going to use it on a C6,, make SURE you have the CAN D modules.
Oh well,,,,,, Lessons learned. There are specific memory cards that you can get and I need one with all the proper updates to make mine work for JUST the C5s. There like $300-$400. The CAN D module is even MORE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Now you can buy GM MDI for replace GM TECH2 .
It can install GDS2 programmer , also able install TECH2WIN programmer (work as GM TECH2 on PC)
I bought one GM MDI with Good quality , able download software on gm offical site with account ,also programming online . i take out the board and check it almost same motherboard as my friends' original dealer GM MDI.

There is no such thing as a brand new legit MDI or Tech 2 going for $350-400. Those are chinese knock offs that probably don't work.
To add to this thread, the Tech 2 has become obsolete for shop use as of late. It still has a lot of capability and will do anything you need for the older platforms but it needs the CANdi module to work with any of the new stuff. The MDI is a 1 shot deal for all the newer PCMs and will still work on the older stuff too. I sold my Tech 2 and bought an MDI last year, haven't missed the Tech 2 since. Then again I've got a Genysis scanner I use for all my typical diagnostics & probing.
However, the MDI requires a GM log-in with monthly access to GM's website. That's it's only draw back for the enthusiast who wants a GM caliber scanner. The Tech 2 can be updated within itself and doesn't require the internet, the MDI does.
If you're running a shop, get an MDI. For the garage warrior or enthusiast, get a Tech 2. Just don't fall for these $350 pieces of garbage.

While this can not be a legit unit, that does not mean it does not work.
I am not considering paying $3,000 for a unit, nor am I considering having someone work on my vett.
If I want to do the work myself, this leaves little choice, other than a knock off.
If someone has other suggestions please advise.

Not when you consider they are shipping from Asia!

I just messaged an Ebay seller that has a knockoff for $1100. They guarantee the unit can program ROP codes on a 2009 model which means it has the latest c6 software. There's no way I would buy one from overseas. Their word means nothing at all. At least with EBAY you have multiple levels of protection.

Tech 2
Hello Guys.
I am new to this forum and this is my first post, so if I am posting in the wrong place please forgive me. I'm considering buying a Tech2, by the way I do not own a corvette, yet. I will be using it only on vehicles earlier the 2012, mostly GM, and would like to know it I need to purchase the VIC interface in order to be able to program the various modules?. I have searched the web for info on this, however, all I can find is that it is used as a spare part. (whatever that means). Can someone please give me a little insight on this matter, as well as, what, if any extras should I purchase in order to program/reprogram any/all modules. thanks in advance for any assistance.

Considering the majority of posts/posters here are nothing more than spam, I wouldn't expect any other.
To real members, be leary of what you read here, it appears that most of the posts from 'members' are really just venders selling Chinese knock-offs, I wouldn't believe a thing they say.
