Should my Grand Sport be able to spin tires?
I have a 2012 Grandsport Auto Transmission with 275 miles on it. I thought it felt a little sluggish compared to my 2008 Convertible so I decided to test it with a couple launches. First with the traction and stability control on it felt like it was slower than my 2008.
Then I decided to see if there was a power issue by shutting off stability and traction and putting the pedal to the floor to spin the tires and they did not break free.
One last try was to still have everything off and make sure car was launching in 1st gear by using paddle shifter and still tires did not break free.
Do I have an issue with my car? Should it be able to spin the tires with everything shut off? I do have 93 octane fuel and there is no pinging.

I have the same as you, 2012 GS A6 w/ 120 miles. Havent tried this yet but I also do not feel the power that my previous vettes had, 2 prior C6's. I've also seen a few posts of GS owners asking the same question? Hopefully someone will jump in & address. I do know the GS's are heavier & the wider tires don't help if you want to spin.

Mine is an 08 A6 and one thing that I noticed is that after around 10k miles or so, the engine really seemed to wake up. I have no data to prove this but it certainly feels much faster....

It's a little known fact, but GM runs every engine on the dyno and the highest horsepower ones are flagged for the base C6 and the underforming engines go into the Grand Sports. At least that's what a few people believe with their GS hater posts.

Perfectly normal man. Mine is a manual, but with those massive tires, you just can't spin them without a high-stall torque converter. Or a lot more torque down low, like on supercharged Vettes. It's like trying to spin them with our manuals launching at 1,500 rpm; it's not going to happen. Having said that, my 2012 also feels a little lethargic of what I remember my ex-C5, but it might have to do with throttle mapping, and as mentioned, letting the engine break in fully after a few thousands miles. I only have 700 so far.
Finally, why the hell do you want to spin the tires for? It slows you down, and you eat them up. But if you want to spin your tires, just turn off T/C and mash the throttle while making a left or right turn, and it'll happen .

Nyuk, nyuk nyuk. You kill me. I have a 2010 GS with a manual and can break the tires loose rolling in second gear without touching the clutch. The power comes on through a stock torque converter much softer than a solid link (manual) transmission. Nothing wrong with your auto. Push the pedal down and wait until the rpm's come up and hang on

Mine will absolutely roast them. In fact not long after we got our GS I had 1 opportunity to do what I thought would be a "little" burnout and it went about 100 feet just boiling smoke from the rears. The black marks are still there on the road on my way home. Got 19,000 miles now and I also have noticed better power as the miles have added on. My runs at our local 1/8th proves it. It has gone quicker and faster in the first few months of this year. I got mine last August. At 400 miles it went 8.70's, at 4,000 8.50's and at 10,000 8.40's to 8.20's and 8.30's now. I ran at Zmax in March and it went 12.40 in the 1/4 and on that pass 8.10 1/8th mile et.

With my 05 I'm going 7.83 - 7.85 @ 93.77 mph for the 1/8th...it has a stock converter, but have drag radials.. 3.15 rear gears...my best 1/4 is 11.98 @ 117 mph
Try putting it in 1st gear.... hold the foot break on HARD... bring the RPM up to 2000 release the break & floor it at the same time... if it don't smoke em then there is a problem someplace...
Remember to shut OFF the Traction Control

Yea those gears and dr's really help these cars scoot down the track. The guy I spoke to last night said his 4k stall was worth a full half second off his et.

Absolutely 100% but with the DR OR if I heat them up it will DEAD HOOK at the track (well prepped)... on the street it just spins like the road is wet...
